To Fly

She flew low in the sky,

Like a bird afraid to fly.

She watched every move of others,

Ready to take flight.

When someone shouted she fluttered away,

Quick and definite,

None could make her stay.

For she knew that if she got the chance,

If she didn't flee,

If she changed her plan,

She would abandon flight.

She'd turn to fight.

She'd hurt others with her words,

Her actions.

She never could keep a friend,

All the birds who surrounded her,

Their times came into an end.

For she could not trust,

When she submitted to others,

They stole all her feathers.

And she was left ugly,

And broken,

And crying.

It took a lot of work

To get back in the sky.

But when she met you,

She flourished and thrived.

You gave back the feathers

From which she was deprived.

You were her Robin Hood,

Stealing back the beauty that was stolen from her.

She abandoned all guard,

Over time she would trust again.

You see,

You gave back more than feathers.

You blessed her with more,

Armed her with the strength to fight.

You gave her the insight to see her worth,

You made her feel beautiful.

And no longer was this bird afraid to fly.
