Chapter 1.

"I win, Morgan!"

"Only because you cheated!" I yell, exacerbated. I shove Daniel's arm off of my throat and jump up, glaring at Daniel the entire time. I crouch low, and he gets into the same stance, but before he can blink I'm jumping at him, feet first.

He has only seconds to get his hands above his head to protect his face, but I expected his reaction. I grab his wrist as I land, and pull him over my shoulder. He grunts as he lands on the floor, and then reaches out and grabs my ankle to pull me to the floor. As I lay winded he laughs at me.

Thinking we have finished, Daniel offers me a hand up. I grin, and yank his arm down so that he ends up falling over while I bounce up onto my feet. I do a dance that I've won, but suddenly shriek as I'm picked up from behind and twirled around very, very quickly.

"Daniel!" I yell, laughing and feeling like I might vomit at the same time. Daniel stops spinning us around, but doesn't let go of me. Instead his grip tightens around my waist and I feel his breath on my neck as he leans in to whisper in my ear.

"I think we'll call it a draw, babe," I can basically hear his smirk, "unless you want to continue? I have to say I don't like the look of your chances..." I scoff and try to leave his embrace - which is what his current hold on me has turned out to be - but can't. Although I may be strong, he's stronger.

He turns me around so that I'm facing him, and although I'm relatively tall at 5"9, at 6"2 he still towers over me. He's smiling down at me, and I grin back at him. I stare into his eyes, a warm chocolate brown colour, and feel my cheeks redden slightly. Even though we've been dating for over a year and a half, he can still make me blush without saying anything.

He leans down quickly and pecks my lips, then leans his forehead against mine.

"I love you," he mumbles.

"And I love you," I whisper in return.

We stand there for a few more seconds, happy and content in eachother's presence, before we're interrupted by a very annoying source of sound, more commonly known as Alex. He bounds into the room, a happy grin plastered onto his 17-year-old face, and pretend gags when he sees Daniel and I.

"This is the practice room, not the make-out one!" He moans, rolling his eyes. Daniel rolls his own eyes and lets go of me as we both turn to fully face Alex.

"There better be a good reason for you to be here, kid." Alex ignores the jibe at the fact he's the youngest of our group (I'm only 2 months older than him, but he is the most immature).

"Tom told me to tell you that Martha wants to see us all. Apparently a group 3 clan has been located." My mouth opens - it was rare to actually find a clan - but then I close it again. We follow Alex through the stone hall-ways, our breathing the only thing being heard.

"So, a group 3, huh?" I say, plopping myself down on one of the more comfortable chairs situated in the large, open office. Daniel leans against the wall, and Alex is bouncing on the balls of his feet, giddy at the prospect of getting out of the compound.  Although I have to say, the idea of stretching my legs and throwing a proper punch did seem like an awfully nice idea. Tom is nowhere to be seen, although that's normal as he's probably getting food or supplies ready.

Martha leaned on her desk, her expression thoughtful. Martha was the leader of us all: at 34, she was the oldest of us all, and the most experienced. She'd taken over since..... The incident. But we don't mention that.

Martha stood up before beginning, "Yes. Group 3, 70 or so miles from here apparently. But that's about all we know so far." She reached behind her, passing me a folder, "This is a satellite image of the area. As far as our sources are concerned, something's up. But they can't put their fingers on it. So they've asked us to look into it."

"When do we leave?" Blurted Alex, an easy grin on his face. He really was just a child in some ways.

Martha flicked her eyes towards him before they rested on me, "As soon as possible. The full moon was a few days ago, so any Weres will be weak. It's the best possible timing."

I nodded my head, and without even turning around spoke to the guys, "Go get ready, you two. I'll meet you by the car in 10 minutes." I hear them get up and leave the room, closing the door after them. Martha went and stood by the window to the side of her desk, looking out over the bleak countryside that surrounded the compound.

"Okay. Spill. What's going on?" She turns around, and I only raise an eyebrow at her. She opens her mouth slightly, and then sets it into a frown.

"Be careful. Apparently there are missing humans.... Teenage girl humans. Just watch your back, okay?" I give Martha a small smile, and nod.

"I promise, I'll be fine. It won't.... I won't be like Ali." My voice breaks at the end of her name, and I mentally scold myself for being so weak. I have to have my emotions in control. Martha nods once, turns around, back to the window, and I take this as my cue to leave.

As I twist open the doorknob I hear Martha mumble, "Be safe. I can't lose you too."

"You won't, sis," I whisper, closing the door softly behind me.

First chapter done! It's quite short, but I just wanted to set the scene. Things will become clearer, I promise!
