The fireplace crackled as the four little sets of legs ran to gather around the creaky antique rocking chair. "Gather round children, it's story time." The pitter-patter comes to a halt as the four select their seats. The smallest of them takes their seat before uttering,

" Mama tell us how you and Papa met."

Mama smiles with delight before beginning "Of course love, it went a little something like this..."

To understand how Lucas and I met and came together you first have to understand how I came to be in this world. I wasn't created in the way many others were. My biological mom was a powerful witch named Sarah Landford who cast a spell impregnating herself. With this pregnancy, Sarah hoped to birth a child to kill the vampires that had been harming the humans for generations. To protect her unborn child Sarah isolated herself for months only inviting in her friend Adyen.
Ayden was a vampire, but not like the others. He had chosen a different path, one of restraint, surviving only on animal blood. But resisting his nature had always been a struggle.

One night, he lost control.

After gorging on the blood of an entire village, Ayden staggered into the shadows of Sarah's cabin, his body trembling from the hunger he had failed to resist. The scent of fresh blood clung to him—a reminder of his weakness. He had sworn never to feed on humans again, but that night, he was a bloodthirsty animal. He barely had time to register Sarah's presence before his instincts took over.

Fangs pierced her skin.

The moment the warm blood touched his tongue, he realized his mistake. Horror crashed over him like a tidal wave. He tried to pull away, but it was too late—the damage was done. Sarah gasped, her hands trembling as she shoved him back with a burst of magic. Ayden stumbled, watching in shock as she pressed her hand to her neck, blood seeping through her fingers.

A sharp pain tore through her abdomen. Her unborn child.

Sarah's eyes blazed with fury as she grabbed a nearby chair, snapping off a jagged piece of wood. "WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?!" she screamed. Before Ayden could plead for forgiveness, she drove the stake through his chest. His body convulsed, then stilled. The lasting she heard was from Ayden was jawing whispered "I'm so sorry Sarah".

The cabin fell silent except for Sarah's ragged breathing.

By the time the sun rose, she knew. The venom had taken root. She was no longer human. But something else was wrong—something deeper. A pulse of unfamiliar energy coursed through her womb. Unbeknownst to Sarah, the vampire's bite had not only changed her; it had changed the child she carried.

She had created something new.
Fearing what her child might become, Sarah bound the child's vampire side ensuring that for the first seventeen years of their life, they would bring no harm. The human half of Anna was meant to fulfill her purpose—to kill the great evil that was vampires. That was the reason she had been created.

The baby she had once wanted would have to be sent away and raised by another. See, Sarah would not be long for this world after the child was born and she had no interest in being a Vampire. For six months, Sarah wandered from village to village, searching for the right people to raise her child. She first sought out witches—her kind—believing they would understand the magic coursing through her daughter's veins. But as she stood before their covens, listening to their hushed whispers, doubt settled in her heart.

"They would mold her into a weapon," Sarah murmured to herself, watching from the shadows as witches debated ancient spells and curses. "She was created to destroy vampires... but is that all she should be?"  Was she to leave the child with humans, vampires, or witches?

She watched human families through windows, their laughter filling the night air. Would they love the child as their own? Or would they fear her once they realized what she was? Humans were no better. She watched them from afar—mothers rocking their babies, fathers returning home from long days of work—but she knew they would fear what they could not understand. The moment her daughter's true nature surfaced, they would cast her out or worse.

Desperation clawed at her. Time was slipping away.

Then, she remembered Ayden.

Ayden had planned to leave, to join others like him—vampires who refused to drink human blood, who sought a different way to exist. Sarah had never believed such creatures could truly fight against their nature, but now, standing at the crossroads of fate, she had no other choice.

She tracked them down, finding a small, hidden sanctuary deep within the forest. Their leader, an ancient vampire with wise eyes, listened as she pleaded for her daughter's future.

"She is powerful," Sarah admitted, her voice raw with emotion. "She will be hunted. She will have to fight. But she deserves a choice—to be more than just a weapon."

The vampire studied the child for a long moment before nodding. "We will keep her safe. We will teach her control."

Relief and sorrow tangled within Sarah's heart. She bent down, pressing one final kiss to her daughter's forehead. "Be good, my love," she whispered. "Be better than we ever were."

She swaddled the baby in a warm blanket and left her at the entrance of their home. A note, tucked carefully between the folds, held her final words:

She has great power, and the world will try to claim her. Love her as I would have. Teach her to be more than what she was made for.

Without looking back, Sarah disappeared into the night.
