Merry ran as fast as she could, her fear seeming to be the only thing that kept her moving as her paws and lungs burned for rest. Her eyes darted to her left and right, the rustle of the dark tree's leaves keeping her mind racing. She hadn't seen them at all, but something told her whatever they were was not good.
The dark, dank forest seemed to stretch for miles without end. The only light source she had was the glowing spot on her forehead, which illuminated just enough of the area so that she didn't trip on any upcoming objects. The light seemed to highlight objects before they even got into her view, giving her enough time to react.
She breathed heavily, struggling to get air into her. The air was thick and almost seemed to burn the inside of her as she tried to breathe it in. Her eyes were tearing up as she squinted them, the air burning them as well. Everything here seemed to burn her. The hot and sticky ground that held little grass stung the aching and splitting pads of her paws, and the lower branches of the trees sliced at her ears, causing blood to trickle down her face and stain her pure white pelt.
She gasped as she saw the path ahead of her turn to stars. She took longer strides, trying desperately to reach for them. The stars would light her way!
The light coming from her flickered, causing Merry to close her eyes from the sting. Watching the light hurt more than the stinging air! After a few seconds of the flickering, it stopped. The light went out.
Merry yowled in fear as she panicked, the path becoming dark as she started to run faster. She couldn't see the path of stars anymore. All she could see was an occasional twinkle as she continued to try and reach it. She would be safe there! She knew she would!
She screamed as she tripped on something. She wasn't able to identify it before she felt claws ripping into her pelt. She screamed more as she tried to get up and start running again, but whatever was holding her down was holding firmly, not thinking about letting go any time soon. She looked back to see what was attacking her, but there was nothing. All she knew was that there were various large tears in her skin that were getting bigger by the moment.
She continued to scream, her paws digging at the ground as she started to beg for help. "Please! Someone! Anyone please!"
She continued to yowl and screech, her eyes on the twinkling stars on the distance. They seemed to get dimmer the more she cried for help. For their help.
The stars vanished, leaving Merry alone to lay helpless on the ground, as the tears in her pelt got bigger and bigger, and her vision got more and more blurry. Her eyes narrowed as she looked upon the path once more, seeing three stars twinkle, before her eyes gently closed.
Merry gasped as her eyes opened, breathing heavily as she looked around with wide eyes. She relaxed as she recognized her surroundings. Her owner's room. She was in her bed. She was safe.
She yawned and shook out her fur, licking her lips. She sniffed the air, and then sighed. No food yet. She shook her fur again, before standing up and walking to the window, jumping up onto the windowsill, and squeezing herself through the open part. Her owner must've opened for her earlier! How nice of him!
She sniffed the air again. She hadn't eaten yet, so trying a bit of hunting didn't seem too bad, although she wasn't the best at it herself. Pen was much better at it than she ever would be. Besides, what was the need for hunting when she had food basically at her disposal? All she needed to do was have kittens every once in a while. That was an easy task compared to hunting for her whole life anyways.
And yet she couldn't resist her instincts when she spied a mouse scurrying across the yard.
