I wake up to a light knocking at my door. I sit up and wrap my blanket around me. "Yeah." I croak out, my voice sounding horrid.
The door opens slowly, revealing a dark silhouette standing in the doorway. "Uh, it's me." A deep voice says.
I sigh inwardly. "Come on in."
Luke walks in and sits on the edge of my bed. "I wanted to apologize. I-"
"Don't." I interrupt him. "Sorry, I just really don't wanna hear it. Obviously our emotions are shot. We both freaked out, way more than we should've. Again. Can we please stop doing this? I'm sick and tired of fighting you, then making up two minutes later. We're siblings, we should be there for each other."
"I completely agree. I know you were just trying to help me out, that last fight was my fault. I-I just couldn't deal with another thing on my plate. Shay, I have to bury my baby at the end of this week."
I throw my arms around him and hold him close. We hold each other and we cry until we have no tears left. Luke sits back and wipes under his eyes, then uses the pad of his thumb to wipe mine, too. "So, how are you and Caleb?"
"I actually broke things off with him yesterday."
"What? Why?"
"Because."
"C'mon, Shay, you can talk to me."
After a brief pause, I decide to just say it. "I miss Michael."
Luke hesitates, then speaks. "Are you guys gonna-"
"We're just friends." I blurt, interrupting him. "For now, at least."
"Well, now we can all hang out again."
"Yeah, I'm really looking forward to it."
"Speaking of."
"What?"
"Wednesday we were planning on spending the day at the lake. Ashton's got a speed boat and we've got our jet skis."
"That sounds fun and all, but what about school?"
"It's online school, Shay. You know it's laid back af."
"I know." I sigh. Our parents pulled us out of regular school at the end of last year because of the publicity that Luke was getting. They didn't want people to effect our education, even though Luke isn't gonna need an education. "Are you just telling me this or are you inviting me?"
"Obviously I'm inviting you, you dumbass."
"That's just because I can hook the trailer on the Jeep and you can't."
"Shut the hell up."
"Is Allie gonna go?"
"Yeah, probably."
"Good. She needs it. You do, too. Get your minds off things."
"That's kinda the point."
"Do they know?"
Luke chews his lip. "No. I don't really know how to tell them."
"Then don't."
"I have to."
"Yes, they need to know, but no, you don't have to be the one to tell them."
"What do you mean?"
"I can tell Michael. Maybe he can tell the other two, or I can. Either way, saves you an explanation."
"You'd do that?"
