(companion to short story by another author)

what is love? you asked me, and i cried.

i screamed.

i told you that i didn't know.

i told you stop, to think this through.

did you realize what you were doing, to all of us?

i think you did.

and now i have your answer.

love

is daylight.

it's a fire that breaks through the barrier of the sky and earth, up through heaven and down through hell.

love is a thousand fireflies, and the way that they looked when they lit up your lies.

that's what love was.

love, now, is an empty home and an empty soul.

love, now, is slab of marble with your name on it.

love, now, is what you left me with when you ripped yourself away.
