"I wan't to have more estrogen in my body" David said.
All the other boys suddenly went quiet.
"What?" exclaims john.
"Why?" says Darvon
"Only a girl would want that!"teased Matt.
"Well I want to be a girl!" screamsDavid. "I am a girl."
That was the start of it. The start ofa kid finding out who they really are. David spent the rest of theday being teased and taunted by the other boys in his class. And bythe time it came to take the bus home it seemed everyone knew what hehad said. The boys kept picking on him and the girls, who had beenfriendly avoided him like the plague. He didn't really notice,though as in his head the words he said kept spinning round andround. "I am a girl"
Life can be hard enough in seventhgrade when you don't fit in. Throw in a few quirks and being theonly jewish kid in school can be hard enough. But sometimes hefigure things out at the worst possible times.
As David gets off the bus, he is givena reprieve, no one else gets off with him, and he starts walking downthe hill to his house. Thats it, why I never felt right, and whypuberty feels so wrong. Im a girl, or rather I should have been agirl. He thinks to himself. I want to be a girl.
"i am a girl"he says out loud one last time before opening the door to hisfamily's house. "mom im home"
"welcome home David, how wasschool today?" she peaks out around the hall from the livingroom.
"It was rough like normal. I got picked on again." Hesays before heading upstairs quickly, to the third floor. Histhoughts still spinning he gets on his computer.
A few googlesearches later. "im not alown, oh god im not alown..." hewhispers, keeping an eye on the door. Not wanting to share this yet. He reads more and more all afternoon until shortly after 5, when hecloses the web browser and wipes the history just to be safe.
"Hibud!" Aaron his step dad walks into the computer room, settingdown his breaf case, before starting his computer. "After dinnerwant to do some gaming? If you have all your homework done thatis."
"Ya I would like that"
David layed awake in his bed that night. "im a girl" He smiles widely knowing that he figured it out and slowly falls asleep.
