My heels clicked on the hard wood floor as I followed the group of executives down the plain white hallway. Dad followed closely behind me.
It was the first official day of the recording contract I had signed three months earlier.
I still couldn't believe I finally had done it!
It had been my dream to sign a contract with a record label but I never thought I could do this.
Big Runs Records.
Where all the best are signed. John Grey, Steven Rome, the Feller twins...
The list goes on and on. And I can now add my name to that list.
Felicity Jones. First place winner of Sing for America!, the most watched game show in the country.
I am still dazed by the fact that I won. It's like someone just pulled the rug out from under me and my body is just floating in mid air.
The executives in front me take a left and I follow, feeling my heart beat faster.
Dad follows closely behind, never letting me forget that he's here with me which is more than can be said for my mother or siblings. They were god knows where do god knows what with god knows who. Honestly, my mother only called to say she seen me on TV and that was it. My siblings called only to ask me if I met anyone famous yet. Whereas dad, bless him, is walking with me in my record label.
Our little group came to halt in front a set of large oak doors.
Together, two of the executives pushed open the door, allowing me to pass through.
There were four people in the room. One, Caleb Summers. He owned the label and took over after his father almost shut it down ten years ago. The next man, who was in his early forties, is my manager. His name in Daniel Hawkings and he is originally from Scotland. The third and forth men are the ones that surprise me the most.
Because none other than John Grey and Brett Johnson are sitting in the room.
John Grey has been my idol since I was six, when I first heard "Party Up" playing on the radio. He was the records highest charted artist with over 15 number one hits and counting.
Brett Johnson is the younger, more active version of John. He's 21 and reeks of charm and charisma. In the last five years, John has been loosing ground in the charts, even more so the more music Brett makes.
It's hard to breath for a moment before Daniel clears his throat.
Which kicks my business mode into high gear. I forget all about my fan girl thoughts and focus on him and Caleb.
"You weren't kidding when you said 5:30 am," I made a motion to sit in the chair next to Daniel.
"I never joke about work Felicity," he says with an amused smile.
Once we're all seated, he begins to go over my recording schedule.
"Monday will be your first day in the studio. You will have the opportunity to meet with some of the best writers in the business to help start your debut album." He hands the stack of papers in front of him to me. "These are all the forms needed for studio rights, seeing as you'll be using or largest studio to record."
He goes on about studio rights and guidelines for a few more minutes before changing over to the topic of writers.
"I have brought extra minds into this," he gestures to John and Brett. "I need to see what works best for you. These two will help you decide which writer best fits your sound."
