Cole woke up that morning a little late. He stared at the ceiling and sighed. Closing his eyes another moment, he tried to muster the strength to get out of bed. With another sigh, he pulled himself up and began to dress, already regretting that he'd stayed up late, browsing the internet for fanart and fanfictions. Unfortunately, they had just served to make him feel worse. As he finished dressing, he heard Jay's voice coming from the hallway. Jay. He unconsciously smiled. He drew in a breath and opened his door to see Jay and Kai. They looked as if they were deep in conversation. "You gotta be funny!" Jay was saying. "Make her laugh! She'll love you, I swear." "Uh, Jay, she already does love me."Suddenly, Kai turned to Cole. "Well, well look who decided to get up. You sleep like a rock." Cole clenched his teeth in annoyance. "Anyway," Kai continued. "I don't think I need anymore relationship advice from you Jay. Look how your relationship with Nya turned out. I'll ask her out on my own. By tonight, we'll finally be official." He walked away, strutting. "Ugh!" Jay said. "You think you're so hot. At least I asked Nya out!" Kai ignored him. Cole laughed. "How come you don't give me advice like that?" Jay turned to him, smirking. "Ohh, Cole's got a crush! Tell Me who you have the hots for and I will." Too late, Cole realized he was playing with fire-or lightning. Feeling himself blush he stuttered, "um- n-no, I really don't like anyone- well, I mean sure, I like a lot of people but not like that-" way to go, Cole. Jay raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? Cuz your body language is telling me otherwise."
"Y-yeah, I'm good. Thanks though. Maybe one day I'll take you up on that." He was painfully aware how awkward he was acting. Jay looked suspicious. "OK. Your loss." He turned to leave. Cole felt like kicking himself.

Later that day, Cole was in the kitchen stuffing himself with cake, and listening to Kai relate his exploits in how things went with Skylor. "Shoulda seen her face when I told her I wanted to be official. She said she was waiting so long, she was actually surprised that I did it-" Cole sighed. He pulled out his phone and started a text to Jay-even though he knew he wouldn't send it.
Jay, about that relationship advice? What would someone have to do to get you to like them? Because I do. Like you, I mean. Soon after we met, I realized you were the best friend I'd ever had. You seemed to actually care, unlike a lot of people I've known. After the rift in our friendship, I guess I struck out at you because I was so mad at myself. I tried to push you away. I guess I was guarding myself, but now it's too late. It's probably stupid, but I do care-
Just then, Kai snatched his phone away. "You're not even paying attention!" He started to look at the phone screen. "NO!" Cole made a grab for it, but Kai was too quick. "What do you have to hide?" He ran into his room and locked the door. "KAI, I SWEAR I WILL KILL YOU! COME OUT BEFORE I KNOCK THIS DOOR DOWN!" He heard Kai gasp from inside. Feeling weak, he gave up. Resignedly, he walked back to his room, got into bed, and hid under the covers. Kai would show Jay, and then his life would be over. He closed his eyes and willed himself to die.
