Chapter 47 - I suppose I could be available

"You aren't going to give me any kind of helpful insight?"  said Shannon

"Shan, I 'm sorry I can't tell you everything is going to work out like you want, nor can I tell you if you should move here or if you should ask him to move to England" Rachel said, touching Shannon's arm gently "You have to sort this out yourself"

Shannon sighed sadly. She knew Rachel was right but all she wanted was for someone to just tell her everything was going to be ok.

"Would you consider moving here?" Rachel continued

Shannon shrugged her shoulders and looked at the floor

"Do you think he would come to England?" Rachel asked

"I don't know, I haven't asked" replied Shannon

"Well you can't leave it much longer" said Rachel

"Yeah I know" snapped Shannon "What if he doesn't want me to come back or doesn't want to come to England though?"

"That's a risk you're gonna have to take or you'll never know and you'll always regret it" said Rachel

Shannon knew Rachel was right and although she didn't want to hear it, the honesty was probably what she needed.

They spent a little while longer by the pool until Tristan announced he was finally hungry and wanted a takeaway.

Shannon decided to go and meet Kailan as he finished work so declined any takeaway and went to get changed.

She didn't feel like getting particularly dressed up so she decided on a pair of pale ripped skinny jeans and a thin white shirt with her favourite trainers.

"I'm heading out now guys" she called to the others, who were dividing out the masses of Chinese food they had ordered

"See ya" they all shouted back

As Shannon threw her phone and keys into a small handbag, Rachel appeared in the hallway

"I'm sorry about before" she whispered

"Don't be" replied Shannon "It was what I needed to hear"

"I didn't want to upset you though, it's just I know what you're like and I know you'll just bury your head rather than deal with it" Rachel said, giving her a hug

"You're right, as always" smiled Shannon

"Yep" laughed Rachel "You coming home tonight or staying out?"

"Probably stay out" Shannon replied "Unless I get dumped of course"

"Stop that" scolded Rachel, pushing Shannon out of the door "See you tomorrow"

Shannon walked towards the beach and arrived just as the lifeguards were putting the flags away and making an announcement to tell the public they were finishing for the day.

Kailan was pulling the shutters down on the tower when he saw her and he gave her a huge, heart melting smile

"Well this is a nice surprise" he said

"You always come to mine so thought we'd have a change of scenery" she replied

"Sounds good" he smiled "I've no food in though so might have to call for something on the way"

They set off walking towards Kailan's apartment and stopped at a takeaway pizza place nearby.

"Sorry about the mess" Kailan giggled when they arrived at his apartment as he kicked a pile of clothes out of the way

Shannon laughed as she sat at his small dining table and he served the pizza up onto plates and put one in front of her.

"How was the cheesy film marathon?" he asked

"Fine" she replied "Was work busy?"

"The boys had a bit of trouble first thing with drunk people who had slept on the beach but by this afternoon it was mainly families and surfers" he replied

Shannon nodded and carried on eating her pizza

"You ok?" he asked, looking confused

"Yeah" Shannon replied, not very convincingly

They ate the rest of the pizza in silence and Shannon got up to take their plates into the kitchen but he grabbed her arm and stopped her.

"What's going on?" he asked "And don't say nothing"

Shannon sat back down and he let go of her arm and held her hand instead

"Rach just said something today that hit home that's all" she sighed

"About me and you?" he asked

Shannon nodded

"I had a similar lecture off Yatesy earlier too" he smiled

Shannon smiled back at him and squeezed his hand "Rach basically said that if I didn't talk to you what was realistically gonna happen when I leave then I'd always regret it"

"Yatesy said if I didn't ask you to move here asap then I was an idiot" he replied

"So is that what you would want?" she asked "For me to move here I mean"

"I just don't want to be separated from you at all and I'm dreading the day you leave" He sighed "And whichever one of us it is that moves, if we decide to do that of course then it's not gonna be easy" he replied "I mean there's lots of legal stuff, paperwork, you know"

Shannon nodded "Yeah, a couple of people have said that actually"

"And basically, if we decide one of us is moving, then they have to leave family, friends, work" Kailan added

They sat in silence for a few seconds

"Can you extend your stay at all?" he asked "To give us a bit more time to work it all out?"

Shannon shook her head "Visa expires the day we fly back"

"Hmmmm, right well ok, let's enjoy our last few days together then" he said with a smile "We can't sort out any visas over New Years anyway so I guess we should have a great last few days together, then look into the other stuff later, which will probably  be when you've gone back I suppose"

Shannon nodded "I suppose you're right, we can't do anything to make my visit last any longer this time so let's make the most of it and leave decision making for now"

"We've been putting it off all this time already" Kailan said as he stroked her hand

"We've got that nice meal booked for tomorrow night anyway"

"Ah yes, the one Rachel and Darren got you for Christmas?" he replied

"Yep and then there's New Years Eve" she replied

"Are you asking me to be your New Years date?" he smiled

Shannon smiled back "Yeah I suppose I am"

"I suppose I could be available" he laughed and he pulled her onto his lap and tickled her until she laughed hysterically.
