A girl visits her best friend in the hospital. Seeing him like that was more than she could bear. Expecting the worst to happen, she made a move that surprised her in more than one way:

I take a deep breath. I'm standing outside of hospital room 409. It's the first time I'm seeing my best friend, Caleb, since he was put in the hospital, which was months ago. I swallow down my fear and creak open the door.

The previous months have been a blur. The only memory I have is the day it all happened. The red white and blue flashing lights filled up the night sky. Colors that represent a wholesome country represented fear, sadness, and guilt that night. People crowded around to get a glimpse at what was happening. I couldn't even get a clear picture due to all the tears in my eyes and spilling onto my cheeks. The tears from that day threaten to return. I push them down for the sake of him.

I slide into the room and slowly click the door shut, trying not to wake him. Then I remembered, he is unconscious. He has been since the day he got here. All  the medication in the world couldn't wake him.

Nothing can wake him now but his own strength.

I turn around to see him lying there. He looked so peaceful. I come to his side. I watch the rise a fall of his breath. I see the relaxed expression he wears. I take in the curves in his neck. I see the softness in his lips that I missed so much. His eye lids cover the sea glass marbles he has as eyes. A lid covering a buried treasure.

A tear rolls down my face. I feel it, a soft heat, travel down my cheek. And soon enough it's joined by others. I take his hand as I cry , kneeling next to his bed. His hand is soft, but callused in some areas. His even tan makes him seem as if he was born for the ocean. An ocean he loved so much.

The idea of never seeing him again enters my mind. My shoulders start to shake as I cry harder. The room is silent though. It's the kindof cry that you are so upset you can't even make a sound.

I wipe my eyes. I feel my blotchy, puffy cheeks. I slowly start to get up and leave. But something holds me back. A little tug pulls me back. I walk back up to the side of the bed. I stare at his perfectly shaped lips. I slowly lean down and kiss him. For a moment it felt like he kissed back. I pull away and give him one more look. I turn away as the tears come back. I can't handle this, even though I thought I could.

All of the sudden something grabs my wrist as I start to walk away. I whip around to stare into the sea green eyes that could only belong to him. The smile upon my face is shining brighter than the sun, as it reflects off the ocean.
