I pulled my long blonde hair into a ponytail.  I grabbed my book bag, my binder, and my computer and ran downstairs.

"Hi, mom," I said hurriedly, grabbing a piece of toast.

"Hi, hon-"

"Bye mom gotta go, I have to get to first hour early so I can finish my extra-credit." I gave her a quick hug and walked out of the door.

I know, I know. Why did I just blow off my mother? She's only nice when she's not drunk. And that's very rarely. So, I stay out of her life and I'm hoping she will do the same for me.

That's why I need a scholarship. She can't afford to send me to college. I don't want to depend on her to send me to college. So, read and study all day. The last 2 grades I got straight A's. I was working to get them again this year.

No fun. At all. But, Alice, what have you done all your life?

Read and study. Finish essays. Do math. Double-check homework. Calculate my grade.

That's my life.
