"No, please!" The girl begged as the older woman dragged her towards the door, her grip on the girl's hand firm to the point it began to redden. No amount of pleas and desperately trying to tug her arm from the woman's hand could help her escape the vice grip the older woman had on her bony arm.
"Silence!" The woman snapped, turning to slap the girl harshly in the face her beady blue eyes flashing with anger.
"Please Madame Sarina, forgive me. I didn't mean to look at the lady!" The girl pleaded, having felt no pain from the slap because what was there to feel when you've been slapped, kicked and sometimes punched by the people who are your caretakers? But Saint Lucia's Orphanage for Girls didn't exactly care about the country laws and how to treat orphaned children. They believed treating the children with a slap or punishment to every mistake they made was the proper way to lead them to the path of righteousness.
