I couldn't hear anything but my pulse in my ears, my heart beating so fast I thought it would burst. I took deep breaths to quiet it down so I could hear what was going on around me.
Crack.. Snap.. Crack.. Snap.. Crack..
Footsteps.. they were getting closer.
Crack.. Snap.. CRACK.. SNAP..
Then silence.. I could feel the cool night air on most of my skin. I could feel the dewy leaves under my feet. I could feel the rough bark of the tree against my back. I could.. I could feel his hot breath against my neck. My pulse quickened again. Then the sound of metal being scraped against something echoed through the woods. I could feel the cold blade of a knife against my neck.
Now, all that could be heard was her scream. Her pulse would never be heard again, not by anyone, but I was the last to hear it.
