"OMG OMG O.M.G! You found something! Miss Ally you are so amazing! I'll get right on it!"

I spend the next six and a half hours going through everything I can get my hands on for this case and that one shot of splatter is the only abnormal thing I can find. I told Kristen to go on home about three hours ago, which she had no complaint about since it's Friday and I know she has plans.

I sit back and rub my forehead, feeling a massive headache coming on.

How can there only be this one picture, from this one angle, that shows the splatter pattern higher than the rest? Is there really something there or am I just trying so hard to find something that I'm turning nothing into evidence?

I am caught off guard by a deep voice coming from my lab doorway. "The best thing you can do for your job some days is go home."

"Thanks Opie, I know, I'm about to leave." Opie is in charge of custodial care and maintenance and has been here for over thirty years. Since before this place was even made into a forensic science lab.

"How's Theresa and the grankids?"

"Oh you know, growing too fast, busy being spoiled. Go on home Ms. Ally, it will all be here when you come back Monday."

"Yes sir, give me five minutes."

"No problem, I'll just go down the hall and lock everything else up and make my way back to you in a few minutes. Please let me walk you out tonight, I've seen some people hanging around the parking lot, and I want to make sure your OK."

"Yes sir."

I turn back around to my desk and begin saving my files and shutting down my computer. With so much on my mind I barely hear the shuffling and muffled cries of someone in a struggle. It actually didn't register in my mind that the sounds I heard were coming from a struggle. It was as if a light bulb suddenly illuminates and I jump to my feet.

"OPIE!"

I run out into the hallway, thinking maybe Opie fell or was having a heart attack. What I saw made me stop dead in my tracks.

Blood smeared down the hall, leading to Opie's body and a man trying to shove him in a closet.

"Oh Shit" I hear the man say.

My flight or fight instincts kick in and I run as fast as I can for the emergency exit at the opposite end of the hall. I hit the door running and look back to see the man, tall, white, medium build, is caught up on Opie's legs and fall into the smeared blood, making a huge bloody mess.

Black pants, grey shirt, gloves, hat but no mask, tall, white, medium build....

I tick off the list in my head, repeating the details so I won't forget.I am running for my life across the front of the building and as I turn the corner that leads me to the parking lot, I see the man coming out the exit and running full speed towards me.

Where the hell is everyone!

I make it to my car just as I realize I don't have my keys!

Shit!

Looking around the empty parking lot, I start to panic. There is no one to help me, and no one to even hear me if I were to scream. A brick wall that stands up about three feet encloses the lot itself. Above that, there is chain link fencing built in on top of the brick, and all together its maybe six feet tall. There are two openings, one for incoming traffic, and one for outgoing traffic. Both have pass code locked gates, so at least I would be able to get out of the lot by entering my code.

All of these thoughts go through my head in about 2 seconds. The entire time I'm standing beside my car watching the guy get closer and closer. I decide to make a run for the fence. I do not want to end up like Opie, being killed because some dope addict decided to break into our lab and look for either drugs or something to sell.

Deciding it's now or never, I take off towards the fence, going up and over to drop down to the sidewalk. Taking a risky chance to look back, I can see the man is still following me and he's about 10 feet behind me. Close enough for me to see he has brown hair and dark eyes.

I was hoping that once I went over the fence, he would give up on me and go back inside for whatever he came for, but he is still chasing after me.

I take off running again, heading towards the city bus depot about 2 blocks away. There are always people there waiting for their bus. I can feel myself becoming extremely winded and my ribs are burning. I can hear the man getting closer and closer, his feet slapping the concrete as he's closing the distance between us.

Suddenly I feel my hair pulled: the man has my ponytail in his fist and he is trying to stop me. I spin around, catching him off guard, and I slam by elbow into his face. The momentum of the hit along with our running speed, makes us both fall, with me landing on top. He still has my hair wrapped in his left fist and with his right hand, he begins to strangle me. My head is at an awkward angle but he still manages to have a firm grip around my throat. I begin to kick, punch and scream the best I can since we are tangled on the ground. My vision starts to gray around the edges and I can feel my lungs screaming for air.

Being this close to the man I can see his features clearly. Acne has left his face scarred up and his nose has been broken a few times. He looks to be in his early-mid 40's and he is in good shape. He doesn't appear to be one of the usual druggies, he is clean and has recently had a haircut. I keep my eyes on him for as long as I can, willing and praying for him to let me go: committing his face to my memory.

Just when I am about to give up, I hear a vehicle pull up beside us and stop. Someone gets out and runs towards us. All I can see are the legs and this person is also wearing black pants and black boots. My first thought is that the second accomplice has found us and has come to help kill me. To my surprise, the man pulls his leg back and kicks my attacker in the side of his face. Blood, and even a few teeth, fly everywhere and I am no longer being strangled. My attacker is now screaming in agony and trying to hold his face together, it looks as though the kick from the kind passerby has broke his jaw and it looks like its hanging there by skin only. I am picked up and pulled away from the attacker, but not before my savior adds one more kick to the mans head.

At this point my willpower shuts down and I black out.......
