Tiana Xia woke up to the sound of her phone having a seizure on her pillow. The alarm she set to wake her up caused the phone to vibrate and move spastically next to her head. A random ringtone screamed into her ear and she thought, "what the hell is that". Half-asleep, she groaned loudly, turning around in hopes that the mysteriously-not-mysterious noise would end. Tiredness consumed her mind, as she ignored the blaring alarm and fell into the depths of her dreamland.
Her brother, Ryan, opened the door to her room, peering in to see his sister still in bed. He sighed, silently wishing he could sleep in as well. He pulled a blanket off of Tiana, knowing she couldn't sleep without one. She opened her eyes, annoyed but quiet. She felt cold.
"Tiana, it's time to get up. We have school and it's 7:20. Turn off your alarm before you wake up the rest of the house."
Ryan left after Tiana got up and turned off her alarm, taking over the bathroom. Tiana huffed, wondering if she can ask her dad if she could skip school to sleep in. Deciding she had already gotten up, Tiana walked over to her dresser. She picked out a pair of dark ripped jeans and a white t-shirt with thick, black, horizontal stripes. The almost-fully-awakened girl threw on a grey hoodie with varsity stripes on the sleeves and put on socks. She grabbed her phone and put it in the hoodie pocket, then went to the bathroom.
Luckily, the door was open and she went in, despite Ryan being there, and started brushing her teeth. He was styling his hair, tying it in a short, neat ponytail. Once he was satisfied with himself, Ryan left the bathroom. Tiana washed her face and cleaned her toothbrush. If the cold rush of air didn't wake her up, the freezing water definitely did. She patted her face dry and looked into the mirror, blinking once. Twice.
She combed her hair, fascinated by the comb going easily through her usually knotted hair. Tiana kept her hair down and rushed to her parents' room. That's where she kept her headbands. She passed her parents' bed quietly. Tiana quickly looked through her collection, and picked out a black headband with two white flower balls on the sides. It looked a bit like bear ears. She rushed out, closing the door without much noise, and threw on her puffy black jacket and her backpack. Ryan was putting on his shoes in the entrance when he looked up and saw his sister in front of his bed, where all the backpacks are.
"Hey, can you pass me my backpack? It's the brand one."
"Sure one sec."
She grabbed it and handed it to her brother after he tied his left shoe, and put on her black sneakers. The siblings left the house soon after. She climbed into the backseat, and her brother to the driver's seat. He set the gear to drive and off they went. They exited the driveway and Friedman Avenue, turning left onto Laptin Road. Tiana watched multiple houses go by, like any other school day. "That house still has Christmas lights and it's almost spring," she observed, "I aspire to reach those levels of procrastination."
The car drove straight for a while, but then turned right onto Floral Avenue and towards the intersection of Blue Sky Avenue, named after the town itself. The street light saw the small, blue Honda Civic and turned orange in response. Ryan knew he couldn't make it and, to the two siblings' inconvenience, slowed down.
When the red light came a few seconds later, Tiana felt a vibration in her pocket. Her phone. The corner of her lip tilted upwards, because she knew who texted her. Her smile grew when she saw that she was right. The message was from "Trash", which was her contact name for Aaron Davis, her best friend of three years.

Tiana turned off her phone, staring at her small reflection in the black screen. She wondered why Aaron was going the the guidance counselors, but shrugged it off. "Scheduling," she decided. Ryan's music pumped loudly through the car's speakers but Tiana didn't listen and looked out the window once again. She glanced at the time. 7:45. Class starts 7:55. The girl closed her eyes for a few moments, and soon she was at school. She left her brother's car, taking a mental note of the time: 7:49. The school bell rang at 7:50, reminding students that class starts soon. Tiana slowly walked into the building and to her first period classroom, grateful for the uncrowded hallways.
"Tiana what's up?"
Said girl turned her head a bit, and saw Aaron lightly jogging towards her with a lollipop in his mouth. They exchanged small grins.
"Hey, I'm really tired but other then that I'm pretty good."
Ryan rolled his eyes and responded with a shit-eating grin, "If you're tired then I'm fucking exhausted. Forgot to sleep and didn't check the time while I was on YouTube looking at memes."
Tiana poked his stomach, and he flinched, lightly glaring at her. She glared back, back looked away a few moments after and smiled.
"You suck. Take care of yourself or I'll fight you."
Aaron only nodded, a teasing grin on his lips. He ran his hand through his soft hair, letting it fall back in place. The two arrived at their classroom, so he opened the door and let her in first.
"Yo Aaron what's up!"
"Is that my boy Lucas Davis?!?!"
Voices around the room greeted Aaron, while Tiana just focused on getting to the other side of the room. Her best friend followed while talking to the people who started a conversation. The two eventually found their seats, which were next to each other in the second row. (F,n) took off her jacket and hung it on the back of her chair. She turned on "do not disturb" on her phone and put it in the depths of her backpack.
She took out her binder and pencil case, before her teacher, Mr. Canley, began his lesson. His plaid sweater seemed to be slightly too small over his collared shirt, because the bottom seam only touched the top of his leather belt. The fabric awkwardly shifted around his armpits as he greeted the class with open arms, literally.
"Good morning everyone!"
Tiana shared a look of "talk to you later" with Aaron, before both of them paid attention to their English teacher.
