Today it snows, here in Chesterville, it never snows. Not even when it's a day like today at the end of November. Although when it does, it catches us so unprepared that through the shaded windows, you can only see children playing with snowballs as if they were grenades. Meanwhile, adults or at least those who behave as such, shiver waiting for them to stop feeling their fingers and decide to leave.
Me instead, no matter how cold it gets, will notice it. Sheltered inside the house of the Paplow's, sweeping to the rhythm that the flecks of snow beat gently against the glass of the monumental window. It is a large and luxurious house, perfect for a large and luxurious family like they are. My best friend Ethan Paplow got me this job, of course, he suggested me. And although it's not a big deal, it helps me to earn some money and it's appreciated.
I mud, scrub and clean for a poor salary. But poorer is having to go to Ethan's room and say:
-Excuse me Mr. Paplow, may you leave this room free, so I can clean it, please?
Although for a reason he is my best friend and doesn't rub it in my face.
-And it's already seven my friend, which means my work shift is over. - I show him a smile from ear to ear, inviting him to the fun.
-I'm sorry dude, another day will be. I have plans with Cass.
And indeed, it was. Knock-knock sounds the big main wooden door. However, this one was already open and a blonde head peeks through the aperture.
-Hello, my love! - She says looking at Ethan. - Hi Blake.- She says to me with much less enthusiasm.
She walks elegantly in her dress with vertical stripes of sky blue and white to my friend and plants a kiss on his cheek. Then he grabs her by the waist and lifts her while he spins around himself.
I do not want to continue seeing so much cheesy love, so I decide to go delivering a goodbye alluded by their affections. After the sound of wood against wood came the cold. I had completely forgotten the outside temperature, I was used to the warmth of the advanced heating system installed in my friend's house.
So, without a clue where I was going, I wandered the soulless streets of Chesterville.
I decided to go to the cobbler's guild in the east of the city. My father works there and sometimes I help him.
When I reach the reddish-brown building with a wooden entrance to the bar described as the family business, I warm up again. This is the place that I have always described as a home, but I do not feel that way. House should be a place where you always feel safe, in which you share unique moments with your family. Unfortunately, this is not my case either. For me, this is a place where I feel that I do not fit, like a piece of a puzzle of different shapes and colors. The people belonging to this one are simple, ordinary, with no intention of offending, but I know that I do not belong there. My father does, I love him just the way he is, but I think I was born with my mother's character. Colder, reserved, distant. She works at the Chesterville town hall. And although we could live comfortably with her salary, my father does not want to give up what he is. It is always justified in the same way, "If I do not move a finger for her, then she will move five and she will say goodbye." You know what they say, the poles attract. I see theirs as a love story like Titanic, the rich woman and the poor man who fall in love. Obviously without the tragic end.
I decide to rest there for a few hours while I do my homework because even though I'm not with my father, he likes me to spend time with him, to share something. When I finish the designated school assignments, I say goodbye to my father and his co-workers and bar buddies and I go to my house located right in front of the bar. Not two seconds after arriving, while I take off my jacket my mother stands right in front of me and asks me:
