I thought life was easy.

Key word: thought.

-------

Theresa was walking through the path she took when she headed to work and as usual she was reading the book of her life.

You know, where she lived there was this thing. This thing that made everyone live their lives as they thought they should instead of what they wanted to do. This thing was a book, more specifically a book for every person. A book that narrated your life. A book that supposedly knew what would happen to you. A book that made everyone to obsessed on their "destiny". A book that Theresa read way too many times.

This object was given to a child when they hit the age of 10 by their parents. When they receive this kind of "crystal ball", obviously they don't hesitate and read it right away hoping to know how their lives would be.

The big problem was when there weren't many pages on the book, when you discovered the life you thought was going to be long ends up ending in 2 years.

Theresa's diary got everything right for the last 20 years. She loved her life, her family and her little inner center friends. The only problem she faced was that she didn't like the fact that she wouldn't experience romantic love. According to her book she wouldn't fall in love nor anyone would fall in love with her. Slowly she became conformed with this, but also, Theresa was sad and wished she could write her own story.

When she got to her job as a pharmacist, on the local pharmacy, Theresa put on her white pharmaceutical gown and started her day.

"Good morning, Theresa" said Mrs. Kullum, an everyday costumer, not because she was always sick but because she liked to talk to Theresa.

"Good morning, Mrs. Kullum"

"I already told you to call me Katherine" she had, but Theresa didn't feel like it was right to call a 66 years-old woman by her first name, even thought she took Mrs. Kullum as a great friend.

"I know, I know. How as your day been?" Theresa tried to change the subject.

"Very good actually, I had pancakes for breakfast, made out with my husband and bought some tomatoes on the grocery on the way here"

"Did you really had to had the husband part there, Mrs. Kullum?" said Theresa as she giggled.

"Well, it made you smile so... You seem to be down today" Katherine always knew what happened in the pharmacist head, it's like she read her thoughts.

"You know me too well Mrs. Kullum, I just remembered that I won't find a partner in my life and it took me down for a moment. Don't worry, I'm okay now, I just have to forget that." She said forcing a smile.

"Honey, you know that you can try and change the story in that stupid book, right?"

"Easier said than done. How would I even do that?" she said hopeful Katherine would have a solution.

"I don't know how, but it mustn't be that hard" Theresa rolled her eyes slightly to this. Of course it was hard, if it wasn't then there would be a lot of people who would easily do it.

"I will have to look into it" she said obviously with no intention to do so.

"Do it and tell me how it went" Katherine headed to the door "I will see you tomorrow honey" she said as she closed the door.

"See you later Mrs. Kullum"

The day went by slow but at the same time fast. It was weird but Theresa was so used the routine that it went by fast but she also didn't like what she was doing so it went by slow.

It was 7 p.m., time to close. That day the manager asked Theresa if she could close the pharmacy because she had to go to her daughter's recital.

She was turning off the system on the computer under the counter. When, she heard the door open, it was dark and she was alone, no one was on the streets.

Slowly she picked the rule she had on a little shelf and raised from her hideout,

The sound of the ruler hitting the ground as if in slow motion filled up the whole establishment. Her eyes locked on the eyes of the man standing in front of her. His eyes were a mix of blue and brown. Descending her look to his lips, his full lips. He wasn't supposed to happen, it wasn't in the book.

"...ase! Please! Help me!" the stranger's screams woke her up from her daydream and she looked at him. He had a knife stabbed into this stomach, bleeding everywhere.

"What happened?" she was truly worried and nervous, her voice shaking.

"Who cares? Could you please, Theresa ... " he tried to read her name tag "...Nittam help me?"

"O..ok..okay" she grabbed his arm and made him sit on a chair that bent backwards. Then, she put what she had learnt in school to practice, having his wound treated in about 20 minutes.

"So, who are you?"
