Dead things were supposed to stay dead. If you searched up dead in any dictionary you would get the same answer. Adjective, No longer alive. Noun, Those who have died. Everyone knew what the word meant but someone didn't seem to like the definition. In reality everything boiled down to one person. To think that only two years ago the 'apocalypse' had started.

I can still remember the sight of things falling from the sky. It seemed like hell on earth. People screaming in pain, agony, horror, and so many other emotions that they all blended together into terror. The day was supposed to be a memorable day. Edan, my brother, being the youngest in his company gotten promoted to the what they called 'Captain' of his lab. They had silly names for their occupations that it made me sometimes baffled to how they all became forensic scientists.

The memorable day was then turned into a day only memorable for chaos. After running out of the small green way we were then in an a small alleyway. Skyscrapers reached for the sky as windows of buildings smashed letting zombies run in. Catastrophe filled the air, it was all I could sense as cars crashed into each other and zombies grabbed at people. The government had given up on our society. I wasn't very sure if they did it or not but they had begun this. No one had any other explanation. In a way I saw this coming.

"Orlaith, wake up." A familiar voice had woken me from my short nap in the car. "We're almost there get up." Sighing, I lifted my head from my brother's shoulder. "I'm up." Edan simply gave a pitiful smile before looking out of the tinted window. He was a very attractive person. His black curly hair had now grown out so much that it fell a few inches below his dark brown eyes. Car trips were his favorite, especially family trips. Though this trip mostly consisted of adults getting rest and thinking about their life in which they could no longer live in.

All five of us had a story. Edan and I, we had a nice family which consisted of two younger siblings. We were all adopted but that didn't stop us from being a family. There was four children; Me, the oldest, Edan, Lisa, and finally Jael. Though the bond we had couldn't keep us all alive. "Here, have some water." Ziya, a small girl gave me a water bottle that sat in her lap. Ziya was especially beautiful. Her bright hazel eyes were wide and cheerful. Her hair was long brown and easily tangled. "Thanks." I replied simply taking a long gulp of the water which was now half empty. I learned a lot about her in the past year than I knew about Rubin or Benson. Ziya was smart, but not so much like street smart. It had taken ages to train her how to use a gun or how to even fight.

"How come she gets water and I don't?" The voice came booming as if he were offended by Ziya's actions. Ziya simply smiled at him in a sarcastic way and capped the water. Benson who everyone knew as impatient, loud and very nice simply sighed and looked at Ziya from the rearview mirror. Benson also had a family, a wife and a small two year old. Both, gone. He doesn't like talking about it. All he liked to do was tell his unpublished stories. I had also found out that he would hunt in his free time. That really helped us survive. I couldn't imagine surviving without his knowledge.

Lastly there was Rubin. A tall witty thirty year old who could make anything out of wood. He acted like a dad and would always make bad punny jokes whenever he had the opportunity. The only moment you could get him to shut up was when he was asleep and at the moment he was close to it.
