Wonwoo POV
I finally made it back to my hometown, Busan, after 8 long years of homework and shitty American professors. I was exhausted mentally and physically from all of the homework packed on top of all the
bullying I had received for wearing glasses along with being Korean. I'm just glad to be home. Even if I'm not exactly sure where "home" is.
I am currently heading to my new apartment, which I had made sure to rent out before I departed. I chuckled at the memory of my departure as I waited to cross the busy street. I had gone to visit my mom after graduation and had ended up stuck there for a month because she refused to let me leave. She kept going on and on about how many bad things could happen, and yes I wanted to stay with her, but her pestering to get me to stay only made me want to go faster.
The ghost of a smile graced my lips as I heard a small ding and a now green light signaling me it was safe to cross. As I walked across the white painted asphalt I began to wonder about my new home. I just hoped the pictures online would do it justice.
My doubts were put to rest as I arrived in front of the building. I could've sworn I remembered the name of the complex from somewhere, but I ended up brushing it off and beginning my descent up the stairs.
I walked down the hallways searching for apartment C16. I had never lived alone before and the thought of it was more exciting to me than scary.
I slowed my urgent steps as I began to count aloud.
"C19...C18...C17.....C16!"
I pulled the key I had received at the front desk out of my pocket and quickly unlocked the door. I threw it open as soon as it was unlocked and just as I was able to look up, I stopped in my tracks. It was amazing! I dropped my carrier and threw my coat to the floor. I quickly removed my shoes and ran to the living room, almost slipping in the process because of my socks.
Although it was completely empty, it was everything I'd hoped and more. An amazing first home! I shut the door upon realizing it was still open, and walked around to look at the house.
It was probably nothing to a fully grown adult, but for me, it was like something straight out of a movie, and I was the main character.
I had ordered takeout after setting up the few belongings I brought along with me and it had finally arrived. As I was eating my phone began to ring. It was the moving company.
I finished chewing and picked up the phone with one hand as I played with my chopsticks thoughtfully in the other.
"Hello?" I asked taking a sip of my coke.
"Hello, is this Mr. Jeon?"
"Yes, is something wrong with the moving truck?"
"Uh, not exactly. The truck is delayed by a few days because of the bad weather in Seoul. We won't charge you anymore money though, so don't worry about it."
"That's alright, I can make do with what I have for now. When will it be here?"
"Hopefully by Thursday... So not tomorrow but the day after"
"Okay, thank you for calling me and letting me know, have a nice night!" I ended the call after he wished me luck in my new home and sighed as i continued to eat my takeout.
It was only a few minutes later when I realized, I had no bed or blanket or sleeping bag. Nothing.
"Shit."
I stood up quickly and slid on my house shoes before making my way out into the hallway. Maybe one of my neighbors will have something?
I was about to knock on the door to room C15 when i heard some strange noises coming from inside. I then remembered how when my takeout had arrived I saw a couple making out by that door. I shuddered as I realized what was happening and decided to try room C17 instead.
After looking like an idiot by putting my ear to the door to check for anymore disastrous possibility's, I deemed the door safe to knock on.
I didn't like human interaction much, especially this late at night, but I knocked anyways. My desperation to not get sick was more than my fear. I heard a loud crash from inside and a slur of curses that seemed to get louder, as if they were coming closer.
I jumped a little as the door opened to reveal a very familiar looking man with cabbage colored hair.
He looked up at me and I knew it was him from the moment I looked into his eyes.
"10:10," I began to mumble to myself, "The name of the complex. I knew I remembered it from somewhere. The idiot never stopped talking about how it was "named after" him."
"Wonwoo-ah? Is that you?" The man said, eyes reaching up to mine.
"Soon...young...?" I had planned on saying more but my words were cut short as I was captured in a warm embrace by the smaller male.
I smiled and wrapped my arms around him in return. We stayed in each other embrace for a moment before parting, our hands still resting on each other's waist.
"I- I didn't think i'd see you here again." He mumbled looking down a bit. "Wait." He looked back up, "Where the hell did you go?!" He shouted slapping me multiple times on the head.
"Ah ah Soonyoung that hurts!" I groaned at the smaller's attacks that seemed to go on forever until I finally got him to stop.
"Blame my mom for making me go to a high school in America. I planned on coming back but she insisted I stayed there for college as well." I sighed remembering how much I argued to stay but she made me go anyways. I remember how heartbroken Soonyoung was. I mean, his best friend disappeared without a trace, I'd be heartbroken too.
"Oh..." He said looking down slightly.
I felt extremely guilty for what I had put Soonyoung through. He called me hundreds of times, each ending in a voice mail where he tried to act like he wasn't crying when you could clearly hear him sobbing on the other line. It's my fault though, I never picked up. I was too afraid of the results. I didn't want to lose my friend to distance, but in the end I lost him because of myself.
I must have spaced out for a while because the said boy was now waving his hands in my face and saying my name over and over again, each progressively louder.
"Wonwoo-ah? Are you okay?" He asked carefully.
I nodded rapidly and gave him a small smile so he'd believe me easier. He smiled in return and opened his door a bit wider.
"Come in, it's been awhile" He said with a small laugh at the end. He almost fooled me. Almost. I could still hear the hint of sadness in his words.
"Yeah, awhile..."
