“Hm. Might be worth looking into.” Varian told her as he walked out. He had a Justin to go see and a Nathan to catch a ride with.

Nathan smiled at him as he got out of work, waiting outside of his car, and Varian didn’t even try and keep himself from smiling in return as he approached Nathan and the car. Nathan responded by getting in and Varian followed suit.

"I guess Millie's as pleasant as usual." Nathan commented, starting the car and pulling out of the parking lot.

“She’s making it difficult to hire more people.”

"Shocking."

Snorting, Varian shook his head. “I told her she should get Life Alert. In my defense, she brought it up.”

Nathan snorted, then laughed and shook his head. "Oh, she's gonna kill you next time you go in there."

“Then she’ll have no workers.”

"I never said she'd make a smart choice."

Laughing, Varian smiled at Nathan. “I love you.”

It was hard to not be happy around him. Especially when they were ganging up and making fun of Millie for her own silly and stubborn decisions.

"This is good. I love you too." Nathan responded with a nod, then frowned slightly. "So, being mated is sort of like being married, in a not-really-married sort of way, right? Like, not married, but...you know what I mean. Right?"

Pausing, Varian looked Nathan over. Where was he going with this? “I suppose. Why?”

"Well I was just thinking, technically you're related to my family, in a not-related sort of way. So technically speaking, you're Millie's nephew now. Technically. Okay, not really, but still. I don't know. I just found it interesting that you've worked for her all this time and now you're basically a part of her family." Nathan shrugged. "Just popped into my head."

“In the vampire world, when two people come together in a mating, they’re automatically included in that person’s family.” Varian confirmed, nodding. “And they’re treated kindly. No matter the circumstance.”

"Well, my family is like, ninety percent human, so. But I guess it's a good thing Mom likes you now. Speaking of Mom, we have to be over there soon for dinner."

“Alright.”

"Oh good, no argument. Makes my life easier." Nathan said as they finally neared the hospital and he pulled the car in.
