The fireplace erupted into green fire and Verity and Charlie Weasley came through the fireplace. Charlie was currently taking time off from work to help his family recover. Verity had been informed that someone had entered the Weasleys Wizard Wheezes store early morning and decided to investigate later on. She didn't know how to deal with George like this, so she had enlisted the help of his family.
Charlie and Verity glanced around the familiar flat, and Charlie noticed that George's bedroom door was firmly shut.
"Verity, you definitely opened every door last time, yes?" Charlie asked, and she nodded.
"I did. I don't like leaving doors shut when a house is empty." She admitted, and Charlie nodded.
"Well, it looks like George has come back." Charlie said, and Verity nodded.
"Do you wanna, or...?" She asked, and Charlie rolled his eyes.
"I'll do it." He muttered, preparing himself to see his brother sprawled on the floor, potentially half naked, potentially hungover.
"I'll start on some food." Verify called after him.
Laura heard footsteps approaching the door and she hurriedly pulled the bedsheets over her head as the door opened, pulling herself into George even more. George shifted and mumbled in his sleep, but didn't wake up.
"George, wake up." Someone said, and Laura held her breath as they approached the bed. George started shaking - Laura assumed the person was shaking George - and he swatted at the hand, pulling Laura closer to him. "George, what in the name of Merlin are you doing? It's nearly midday, get up!" They persisted, and George groaned.
"Piss off Charlie," he grumbled, and Charlie laughed.
"Verity is cooking breakfast. Come out soon." Charlie said, and George nodded before Charlie left.
Laura peeked out from under the duvet and sent George a small smile.
"Hi." She said, wondering what was going through his mind as he stared at her.
"Hi. Laura, do you want to meet one of my older brothers?" He asked, and Laura blinked rapidly a few moments before she nodded.
"Is Charlie your oldest brother? How many brothers have you got?" She asked, pushing herself into a seated position and dragging the duvet up to her chest as she went.
"I have 5 brothers. Wait, 4. 4 brothers." George frowned, and Laura grabbed his hand again, hoping to give him strength. "And a younger sister. Do you have any siblings?"
"I have a younger brother. He should be in 4th year at Hogwarts." She told him.
Laura watched as George slowly pulled himself up into a sitting position. Tentatively, she asked, "who's Verity?" She tried to appear nonplussed about the use of the girl's name in relation to George, but George was grinning and Laura supposed that she hadn't hid her unease well.
George grasped her hands and rolled over so he was lying on top of her, and he leaned down to give her a gentle kiss. "Verity looks after the shop." He finally told her. "She's just my employee."
Laura released a breath she hadn't even realised she was holding, and she leaned up to give George a short kiss before sitting up, taking the duvet with her.
"Where did you throw my dress?" She asked, and George rolled back over and, reaching down the side of the bed, picked up the yellow dress. She grinned and kissed his cheek as she took it off him before standing and quickly throwing it on. George didn't tear his eyes from her for a moment, even as she turned back around and noticed his stare. She blushed, and said, "not whilst your brother is outside!" George groaned and let his head fall back to the pillow.
Laura grabbed her underwear as well and slid them on under her dress, thanking herself for taking them off and putting them somewhere discrete. When she turned around, George had thrown on a pair of pyjama trousers and was in the process of putting on a shirt, and she forced herself to stop pouting.
"Ready?" She asked, and George grinned, walking around the bed and clasping her hand in his. He gently pulled her towards him, and she let him pull her into a kiss, tender and warm and Laura had to pull away before a repeat of last night happened.
"I am now," he smirked, and Laura just chuckled.
Laura grabbed her wand from a hidden pocket in her dress and cast a breath freshening charm, and George did the same.
Then Laura allowed George to gently tug her out the bedroom, to meet his brother.
She wasn't sure if the nausea she was feeling had to do with the alcohol from last night or nerves.
Laura had only glimpsed the kitchen on their way to the bedroom last night, but it was brighter and larger than she had seen last night. The counters were a light wood, Laura thought it might be oak, but she had never been good at identifying wood from its colour, and there was a white muggle fridge in the corner, covered in small pictures and what Laura thought might have been fridge magnets. There was a wooden kitchen table in the centre of the room, suitably large enough to seat up to 8 people.
A man was sat at the table, with the same nose and hair as George, but he had faint scars running up his arms and his neck, and Laura assumed they also appeared all over his chest and back. A woman was stood at the stove, using her wand to fry some bacons and eggs. When George and Laura stepped into the room, both their eyes turned to them, and the man's eyes widened at seeing Laura, whilst the woman's cheeks turns a bright red and she turned back to the stove.
"George, good to see you up and about." Laura deduced that this was Charlie, and George grinned and sat down next to his brother, leaving Laura to stand awkwardly.
"Charlie, it's good to see you." George replied. He paused as he gave Charlie a hug, and he turned to Laura. "Charlie, I'd like you to meet Laura. Laura, this is Charlie. He works at a dragon reserve in Romania."
Laura's eyes widened as she realised that the person sat in front of her was the Charlie Weasley - author of a very detailed and intriguing essay on encouraging interactions between wizards and dragons.
"Wow, you're the wizard who wrote Between Two Worlds, the essay on dragon and wizard interactions?" Laura grinned, and Charlie blushed. That had been one of his earlier essays whilst studying dragons, and his boss had published it on his behalf, claiming the ideas to be revolutionary and worthy of recognition. He hadn't told his family, because, at the time, Molly had been very against him studying with dragons.
"Ahem, yes, that would be me." He said, his freckled cheeks burning. Laura grinned, sitting next to George, and George grabbed her hand under the table, glad to see all her nervousness disappeared.
"It's frankly a pleasure to meet you, although maybe not the circumstances I had hoped to." Laura blushed as she realised she was still wearing the makeup she wore last night, and it would undoubtedly be smudged.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well, Laura." Charlie replied, and Laura sent George a small grin, which George returned eagerly.
"Whatcha cooking there V?" George asked, and Verity sent him a smile.
"I'm making eggs and bacon, your usual hangover cure." Verity grinned, and George blushed. "Hi Laura, my name's Verity. It's good to meet you." Verity extended her hand to Laura, who shook it.
"Hi Verity. I hear you work at the shop downstairs?" Laura said, and Verity nodded.
"I have been for years now, since I left Hogwarts." Verity said, and Laura nodded.
"It must be such a boring job, to work for George." Laura grinned, sending George a wink, and George protested.
"I'll have you know I am the most fun person I know." He exclaimed, and Laura raised an eyebrow.
"Well, I guess I'll just have to leave then. After all, I thought I was pretty fun last night." She grinned, and Charlie yelled out, 'ew' at what she was insinuating.
George grasped her hand tightly, and pulled her off her seat and onto his lap. "If I have anything to say about it, you aren't going anywhere." He whispered before gently kissing her. Laura melted, falling into it all too well.
"Oi, I'm not gonna be able to keep any food down if you two don't stop!" Verity exclaimed, and Laura blushed as she pulled away from George, making sure she still held his hand as she returned to her seat.
Verity put down a huge plate of bacon and eggs, and Laura stared at it in shock, feeling the nausea return at the thought of eating so much food.
"We aren't even going to make a dent in that." Laura said, and George sent her a wink as Verity replied.
"You haven't seen these boys eat." She said, and Laura just sent her a wide stare.
"My brother is currently going through puberty and he doesn't eat half this much." Laura replied, and George chuckled.
"We're just well fed." Charlie defended and Laura nodded.
"No way, I never would have guessed." She joked, and Verity grinned.
Verity had a feeling that she was really going to like this girl. She didn't know who she was, she had no clue if the girl was even magical, but George was smiling and laughing and talking and Verity didn't know many people who could still do that. She glanced at Charlie, who sent her a knowing smile, and she knew they were both thinking the same thing.
Maybe this woman, whomever she was, could help them heal George.
