"I'll pay you" He says and I scoff.
"You want me to pay you to be my fake boyfriend?" I couldn't believe him. First he stands me up, and now he wants to act like it never happened in the first place.
"That's what I said" He smirks and snakes his ar...
Danielle pulled up to the house and had to park a ways away because of how crowded it already was. We were only an hour late and the small kickback had turned into a function. Cars were lined up down the block and the driveway was full. Music was blaring from the house, and I wouldn't be surprised if the cops were to show up at some point. This is the hood part of town, so they always be patrolling. Doesn't matter, Danielle and I weren't staying long anyway.
We hopped out the car and started walking toward the house.
"Can you believe we're about to seniors?" Danielle asked. It was July, and we'd be going back to school in September.
I shrugged. "I'm just ready to get my diploma and bounce"
"Word"
We made it to the front porch and I reached for the doorknob but someone yanked it open before me from the inside, ran out into the yard, and threw up. I don't know why I agreed to come to this. Especially when it's being hosted by Ciara. I can't stand her.
"Looks like someone don't know how to hold their liquor" Danielle snickered. I laughed and we headed inside.
Even though I don't like Ciara, the girl throws some bomb parties. The house was packed, bodies were everywhere. Everywhere I looked people were either smoking, drinking, making out, or dancing. I could tell this was about to be a long night, 'cause Danielle was already heading toward her boyfriend, Gabe, who was chillin in the corner with his crew and drinking who knows what. She grabbed his face with both hands and practically threw herself on him.

I sighed and headed toward the kitchen for a drink, having to squeeze past sweaty bodies and couples every now and then. The kitchen was less crowded than the living room, so I decided to just chill there for most of the night. I sat on the barstool at the counter and grabbed the first cup I saw. Whosever it was, it was mine now. I decided to drink slow tonight. Someone had to drive Danielle home, and it wasn't 'bout to be her drunk boyfriend.
I looked around for any familiar faces but only recognized a couple people. Danielle popped up outta nowhere and sat down beside me. She snatched my cup out my hand and downed it in one gulp.
"Heeeey Ja-" hiccup "da" she smiled lopsided at me and I rolled my eyes.
"You're already drunk?" I ask her.
She stared at me for a fat minute before grabbing another drink on the counter and drinking it fast. "I'm not drunk, I'm enjoying myself" She says and I laugh.
From the corner of my eye I notice someone I'd never seen before. He must've been from North or somethin'. Either way, he was fine as hell. I nudged Danielle and pointed at the guy. Her eyes went wide when she saw him and her jaw dropped
"Daaaaammnn! He is FINE!" She yelled.
"Shhh! You gonna get his attention! You got a man, remember?" I ask her.
"Mmhmm, but you don't. So what're you standing here for? Go have some fun before we go back to school" She winked at me.
"You're so nasty. I ain't like that-" I start and she interrupts.
"Anymoreee" she teases and points at me, I smack her finger away.
"Fine. I ain't like that anymore. But that don't mean I won't give him my digits" I smirk and she squeals. I grab her drink and she pouts, sticks her tongue out at me, and grabs another drink off the counter. She's definitely not driving again tonight.
I make my way over to him and our eyes meet. He smiles and I do the same, taking a small sip of my drink before saying anything.
"Hey, I've never seen you at one of Ciara's functions before" I say.
"I came with a friend. It's not all that though. I might bounce soon" He responds.
"Hm, that's too bad" I shrug, taking a sip of my drink and looking around for Danielle, but she was already gone.
"Why's that?" He smirks.
"I guess you'll just have to stick around to find out" I say with a smile and he chuckles.
"I guess I could stay for a minute..."
We talked for almost an hour. Nathan was fun to talk to, and he knew how to keep the conversation going. I think that's what I like most about him so far, he ain't boring like the rest of the guys I've talked to. And I had no intention on being his hump and dump either. We were in the middle of a conversation when Ciara came up outta nowhere.
"Heeeey, Jada. Girl you look good-" hiccup "tonight. This your man?" She asks looking Nathan up and down before licking her lips and grinning. Ciara is a snake. Even if Nathan was my man she'd still try to get with him. Believe that.
"No, he ain't my man. Are you drunk?" I ask her, already knowing the answer was yes.
"YOU ALREADY KNOOOW!" She yells and people in the kitchen look at her before going back to whatever it was they were doing. "Oops" She giggles.
"Who's this?" Nathan asks me. I just now realized he hasn't slurred his words once since we've talked. He must know how to hold his own.
"Ciara. This is her place" I tell him and he nods.
"Nice to meet you" He tells her.
"You wanna get outta here?" She winks at him. I swear, even if you breathe her way, Ciara will think it's an invitation into the bedroom. I just met him though, so I had no right to say anything.
"Nah, i'm good right here" He says, looking at me and smiling. I smile back.
"Boo you, then! BYE JADA!" She yells before stumbling away, holding onto the counter for support.
"Sorry about that, she's kind of a mess" I tell him.
"It's coo'" He responds. Neither of us said anything for a minute.
"Jadaaaa" Danielle groans behind me.
"What's up?" I ask her.
"I'm ready to bounce" She says before pulling her keys out and throwing them at me without warning. I still managed to catch them, though.
"Well... I gotta go" I look at Nathan and smile.
"Aight... I should go find my friend too... Could I get your number, though?" He asks and glances down at my lips before looking back at my eyes.
"Yeah" I say maybe a little too quick and he chuckles while handing me his phone. I put my number in and hand his phone back to him.
"I'll call you tomorrow" He says.
"Alright" I say nonchalantly.
After saying goodbye one last time and parting ways, I finally let out a breath I didn't even know I was holding in. I helped Danielle to her car and put her in the back seat. The whole drive to Danielle's I couldn't get Nathan out of my mind. I couldn't wait for him to call me tomorrow. - I waited a week for the call. Weeks turned into a month. It was now September, and Nathan never once called...
