“I understand.”
Nathan hummed quietly, thinking. He probably couldn’t ask about the Board, so he wouldn’t even try. He at least knew that Venerra was okay, for now. Victor stayed silent until Nathan spoke again. “So...Jesus. Sorry, I just don’t know what to say. There’s a lot I want to ask you, a lot of it’s about the Board, you probably can’t answer that.” Nathan said, talking out loud more than anything as he sighed.
“As head of the Board, It’s my duty to answer any questions posed. I’ll answer what I can.” Victor replied, watching Nathan. Nathan looked over at him, thinking for a second.
“Who wants Ace removed?”
“Kacey. He’s rounding up the other members, bending them to his will.”
“Why?”
“Power.” Victor stated. “He feels entitled, and wants my position.”
Nathan rolled his eyes a little. “I guess that makes sense in a weird way, but why does he want Ace gone?”
“Ace provides an effective barrier to the power he seeks. A weak one, but one nonetheless. Remove the professors and you remove the obstacles preventing Board Blotting.”
“That’s bullshi−−” Nathan cut himself off, clearing his throat. “Sorry. But, if there’s a petition, it would stop it, right? Kacey wouldn’t be able to remove him if that happened. Right?”
“The petition only serves to create a stay on the voting process of the heads of the Board.” Victor said, shaking his head. Nathan sighed at that, reaching up to rub the back of his neck.
“So even if there was a petition, he could still be removed.”
“Yes, because the heads would have to cast their final votes in the end.”
“Shit.” Nathan mumbled under his breath, but remembered that Victor was Changed, so he probably heard as he glanced back up. “Sorry.”
“There is a time and place for all manners of vocabulary. I see no fault in such usage.” Victor said, shrugging. “However, the petition does do something crucial, and that is buy time.”
Nathan nodded. “Which is good.”
“Time allows me space to enact change.”
“Which is also good.”
Victor sighed. “But exhausting.”
“Understandably.” Nathan nodded, then glanced around for a second before he sighed. “At least it’ll do something,” he mumbled.
“It was very kind of Kai to aid you in that endeavor.”
