“What’s the thumb thing?” Heath asked, leaning on the back of the couch to look at the laptop Cecelia was using. She quickly scrolled away from the post of someone ranting about ‘the thumb thing’.
The ‘thumb thing’ they were referring to was the slow circular motion of someone rubbing their thumb over the back of hand and wrist when two people were holding hands.
Heath did it sometimes, but it was an unconscious motion and Cecelia knew he didn’t do it on purpose. She loved the thumb thing, it was a stupid thing to be enamored by, but it got her every single time.
Seeing her scroll away so fast, Heath leaned closer.
“Cecelia!” he fake gasped, “Could it be you were looking at something scandalous??”
She blushed, shaking her head ‘no.’
“I don’t believe you,” Heath laughed, he reached down and placed his hand over hers on the mouse pad of the laptop. He scrolled up quickly then clicked on the link to a gif of the ‘thumb thing’ all the while pretty much doing the ‘thumb thing’.
The link appeared and Heath studied it for a moment, his almond-colored eyes scanning the moving picture of two interlocked hands. He looked down at his hand over his girlfriends.
“Oh. I think I do this sometimes…” he mumbled.
Testing the motion out, Heath slowly entwined their fingers and he began to stroke his thumb across the back of her hand. Cecelia’s gaze darkened a shade and she watched the motion warily. Heath saw her eyes widened and then droop sultrily and he smiled mischievously.
He pulled her hand back towards him, catching Cecelia’s eyes that were a glowing silvery blue in the early morning light. With the same crooked smile in place, Heath pressed his lips to the edge of Cecelia’s knuckles.
Her mouth popped open and the moment was so precious that Heath had to lean down and connect their mouths together for a slight second.
The kiss was short-lived as Heath stood back up straight but kept a firm grip on her hand. Which, in all honesty, was a pretty awkward position for Cecelia’s arm, being stretched up and backwards as if she was rearing her hand back to slap something.
Heath saw this and smiled courteously before letting her hand drop. He turned to walk away, but Cecelia arm whipped out and connected to his hand again.
He stopped, slowly turning around with an all too knowing smile. Cecelia felt apprehension twist her stomach but she pulled him towards her anyway and somehow he ended up on the couch with her.
“You love the weirdest things.” He smirked, but continued to stroke the back of her hand soothingly. Cecelia snorted, releasing a snide comment about how she could say the same for him. But she leaned her head sweetly on his shoulder, smiling contentedly anyway.
