“ Don't play stupid. You too skinny to show, but your ass got bigger. You went away for reasons unknown. You cheated on me, babe?" How can someone be so intimidating, especially twenty feet away?
“Shut up." Terry yells it through his teeth. Marcus ignores him.
“ She looks just like you, baby."
My subconscious is screaming for me to say something, but I'm frozen, with Amalia still in my hands.
“ Anything you want to say, before I blow their brains out?"
He says it with cold, black eyes burning a hole into mine. This isn't Terrance, it's Hood. The one who loves being the bad guy.
“ We can't, Hood. They're our friends. Before we left here, you loved this girl!" My outburst takes him by complete surprise.
“I never loved her. I've been waiting for you to realize-"
“I just killed my parents three weeks ago." I shift Amalia to my hip, wiping my tears with the back of my hand.
“ Do you think that was easy? That I don't have nightmares? What am I gonna tell Amalia when she gets older? Huh?"
“ They deserved it. What they did to you." Terrance bites of his words, barely containing his fury. I look over at Monicka and Marcus.
“ No one deserves to die. They won, Terrance. They got the best of me." I say between hiccups.
“No, no, no, Miel," His eyes soften.
“ They did things to you they could never take back. Evil people get evil done back to them. Don't ever feel sorry, for protecting your family, our family. Our child."
“Your child?" Monicka speaks up, with tears in her eyes.
“ You used me this whole time, Hood?"
Terrance shrugged, not looking at anything in particular.
“ It's not like you weren't using me. You don't remember the way you opened the door, earlier?"
Her cheeks turn red, turning my sadness into anger.
“ We're better than them. Let's just leave, Terrance."
I walk towards the door, with my eyes still on my “friend", and Marcus.
“ Marcus, I loved you." I choke up, again, thinking of all the things he put me through.
“I love you, too, baby."
“ No. Loved. Past-tense. I do know why I did love you, even though you made me feel like shit. I thought you would change, back to the old Marcus, but he never showed up."
I looked at Monicka once again.
“ It's only a matter of time."
I shook my head as I stepped out into the porch.
That's the last time I saw them. For a while, at least.

5 YEARS LATER.
“ Terrance?"
“ Yes?" His eyes stay on the money in the middle of the table. About ten grand, piled high. Different stacks of the same size litter the big table, in our big game room, in our big house. I am sitting on top of the table, only in my underwear, instead of sitting on the opposite end, not wanting to be too far away from him.
“ What's it gonna be?" He smirks, finally looking up at me.
“ Royal Flush!" I smirk back, laying the cards out on the table. His smirk disappears, replaced with a scowl.
