Plot Twist (AMACon 5 Entry)

PLOT TWIST

"27 cats? Really?" Rich giggled.

"Stop it. It's not funny." Aina had a serious look on her face so Rich stopped giggling and returned his attention to her. "I'm just afraid that whatever this is, it's gonna end soon and it's gonna end badly." She said with tears welling in her eyes.  

"I love you." Rich said and that shocked her. "I know it's fast. We've only dated 5 times. But, I know that whatever this is, I do love you." Rich sat up, grabbed his jeans from the floor and pulled something out of the pocket.

Aina's eyes widened. She never expected something like this.  

"It's not an engagement ring." Rich laughed lightly. "It's a promise ring. As your boyfriend, I promise to stay by your side and to love you always until the time comes that we're ready to take the next big step. Will you be my girlfriend and would you date me exclusively?" He smiled as he said those words.

The only answer Aina gave was to put the ring on her finger and a passionate kiss on Rich's lips.  

5    The Results

As Aina and Rich read the result, the events that happened in the past week flashed before their eyes.  

A few weeks ago, Katerina started acting weird. She kept pressing Aina to ask Rich something.  

"There's nothing wrong with asking him, right?" Katerina said.

"Why? I mean, there's really no need for me to know that because I'm pretty sure that has nothing to do with us. It's safe." Aina replied.  

"But you are, right?" Katerina asked.

"I am. What's the big deal?" Aina was getting frustrated. She really didn't want to do what Katerina was asking her to do.

"Just ask him. I don't want you getting hurt in the end." Katerina gave Aina the saddest puppy dog eyes she could muster because she knew Aina always falls for that crap.  

"Fine. I'll ask him. Then after all this, make me understand why I need to ask him that." Aina said defeatedly. She shook her head and let out a big sigh when Katerina smiled so wide.  

Then a few days later, it was Chang's turn to start acting weird.

"Aina, hun, you're getting a little bloated. Are you mega-dosing sodium right now?"

"What? No." Aina replied.  

"So, when's Rich's birthday?" Chang suddenly changed the topic.

"Why do you want to know?"  

"You know the calendar on my phone? I want to fill it up with birthdays of my friends' boyfriends, too. Not just their birthdays." Chang said with some hostility im his voice. "Seriously, Aina, it's not like I'm gonna give your boyfriend birthday sex."

Aina laughed then replied, "16th of July."  

"Oh. Okay." Chang said, surprised.

"What?"

"Nothing. Just surprised is all. Have you done what Katerina asked you to do?" Chang said suddenly which took Aina by surprise.

"No. I haven't. Why is it so important to you guys?"  

Now, Aina understood why it was so important to them. It occurred to her that this was the reason why they wanted her to do it.  

"Please tell me you're not pregnant." Rich said once they've fully opened the lab results.  

"I…" Aina blacked out.

6    Just A Dream

Aina woke up feeling refreshed. "Oh God. It was just a dream. Everything was just a dream." She said out loud. She sighed a breath of relief but was cut short when Rich suddenly talked beside her. She didn't notice that he was sitting right beside her bed and that she was still in the hospital.

"What's a dream?" Rich said. She noticed Katerina and Chang standing beside Rich with worried look on their faces.  

"Everything."  

"Aina." Rich murmured softly. "We have the same birthday. A few weeks ago, you asked me if I was adopted like you. I said yes." Rich paused, took a deep breath then continued, "We took DNA tests this morning. We matched.”

Aina's eyes widened.

Before anyone else could speak and before Aina could even process what Rich said, doctors came in the room and walked towards Aina.

"Ms. Montgomery, the reason why you fainted is that you're 7 weeks pregnant." The doctor noticed that Aina was still in shock. "You have nothing to worry about Ms. Montgomery. Everything is going to be just fine."  

Aina fainted again.
