I could see Y frowning as she glided back down onto the ground. To be surprise, she took out her hand and offered to help Ada up. "My name's Yvonne Gabena. What's yours?"
"A-Ada Eden! What do you think you're doing?!"
Y noticed me as I was walking away from the battlefield, "Hey X!"
Ada narrowed her eyebrows, "His name is Xavier."
"He lets me call him X."
I heard Ada groan.
━ ♪ ━
Vonnie told me after all of that, Ada scolded at her. I used to attend elementary school with her in Vaniville Town. Her desire to become a flyer landed her in the best school for Sky battling, Anistar High. She had already attended an academy during the seventh and eighth grade on the weekends. I chose not to go to Anistar High which angered her a little.
I found out about her feelings when Willow told me. Ada wanted Willow to help ask me to an eighth grade dance. I refused and Willow agreed to my decision since she had once been bullied by Ada's minions.
While I was sitting on the school steps and waiting for Y to come out, I asked myself a question.
Why did she just barge into my life all of the sudden?
I know it's too early to ask but she literally took me in. She had everything prepared for me. This is sounding creepy.
I sighed.
Then I heard footsteps approaching me. I turned around, literally hoping it was Y. It was Ada.
"Hi," she said.
"Uh hi."
Ada turned a little pink. "I just wanted to ask how are you?"
"Meh. I'm fine."
"How's your sister?"
"I don't know."
"Oh." was all she could reply.
It was awkward. She went on to ask how was Vonnie, my father, school, and piano. And to all of them, I said: "Good."
"Xavier, you have no enthusiasm."
"Why should I? I'm tired."
"From what?"
"My last class is gym."
"Oh."
Then Sakura was came by. She didn't look too happy with Ada. "We could've won if only the referee didn't blow the whistle," Sakura said, crossing her arms. Then she turned to me. "I guess you are too weak that you're now relying on a violinist to release your pain."
I shot a look at her, "What do you mean?"
"You sure are a dense boy."
"What?"
"Never mind, Xavier."
Ada obviously wanted to be part of the conversation. "So who are you?"
"Name's Sakura Oreki."
"Oreos?"
"Are you deaf?! Oreki!"
Then finally my lifesaver came, "Guys, calm down. X and I are going now."
"He's going with you?!" Maybe not.
"Shh, everyone will hear you. C'mon X."
Lifesaver. We walked down the four blocks silently. We didn't talk. I wondered why Y was keeping her silence. So it felt like an eternity walking to her house. On the third block was the Laverre City Gym. I saw Valerie outside watering the plants outside the gym. Valerie and Willow used to water the plants and train together. When Valerie caught my eye, she gave me a sympathetic smile. She cared.
Many people cared about Willow because of how much she gave to them before she slipped into a deep sleep. What she did may seem so little but it meant so much to everybody. Then Y sighed before she began saying, "A girl once helped me through the skies even when she could only be on the ground."
"Was that girl Willow?" I asked right away.
"I guess..."
She stopped. She looked down and made her own face blank. A dark shadow casted over her eyes and mouth. Then I realized that she had her hair down. Her honey brown locks drop beside her.
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing!" Y chirped. "Let's hurry before my mom gets worried!"
I had never seen a person go so down then climb back up all of the sudden. I threw a puzzled face at her without knowing which caused her to drag me so suddenly that I almost choked on my gasp. I had no idea how you could choke on your own breath.
Right after we entered Y's house, her mother was giving me that look. It wasn't really either a good or mean look but it was the kind that asked a question. What-took-you-and-my-daughter-so-long kind of look. I couldn't even describe her face. Y didn't seem to notice anything though.
Then I noticed it. The black cloth was gone and there was a box. I slowly walked over to it. The box had pictures of Y and Willow. I knelt down in front of the cardboard box and picked up a picture. Y dropped her backpack and sauntered her way to me as she told me, "Willow was always there, in every picture I took after we met."
There was one that showed Willow and Valerie grinning while Y was on a branch with her flying suit, also smiling. "That was by the Laverre City Gym," she commented.
"I know," I said. "Wasn't that two days before the car accident?"
"H-How did you know?"
"Willow told me where she was. She never told me about you."
"I told her not to."
I turned to her. "Why?"
Her cheeks turned into a deep pink. "Never mind."
I stood up, "May I keep a picture?"
"Why?" Y immediately asked.
"I miss her eyes."
Y sighed. I tried to hold back the tears but they came pouring out anyways. I fell off my knees and became a tear machine. The flyer snatched me hands off my eyes and dragged me upstairs. Unlike my carpet stairs, these ones were wooden. It hurt real bad. Which made me grit my teeth. I did kind of deserve it. I was only an extra worthless soul in her house.
"You can choose to get into your room and cry there or go into the kitchen to get a snack and do your homework on the counter."
"Snack," I answered feebly.
"Okay," Y said. "Now get up by yourself and act like nothing just happened."
"Yes, ma'am."
And so we went. Y surprised me by showing me the snack. My dad's homemade yogurt. I wanted to scream with joy, but I know that's not a manly thing to do.
Then suddenly Y's phone rang. She jumped out of her seat to answer it.
"Yes?"
A pause. Then, she froze.
"No way."
She was raising her eyebrows. Another pause. Then: "Okay, I'm coming."
