I guess I should start off with my family and why I am here. My name is Hanna and I am thirteen years old. I have twin sisters, called Rosa and Anisa, a lovely older brother called Josef, a wonderful mother and father and grandparents, who love just down the road. Amazing, right? A normal happy family.

Wrong.

Why?

Because I live with my family in Nazi controlled Holland, which would be fine if I were to be a Christian. But I am not. I am a Jew.

Despite been thirteen I have full knowledge of what's been going on in Poland. I know that the Jews are been gassed. Mother and father have been talking about going into hiding. Where we will wait it out until the war is over. But there's a problem, we do not know anyone who would willing to help us hide. Because they would get into serious trouble. That's one of things with the Nazi's. They would hurt anyone who helps us. Also father has been out of work for a while, he came down with the flu, and mother stays home and looks after all of us children. So has no money.

I know that tomorrow all men have been ordered they must gather in the town. Father hopes that it is simply for all the laws to be laid out. He has said he must go, sick or not, or all of us will be killed. Why are they so cruel? I hope and I pray that father will be safe.

That's all I had best write for now. Mother would like me to sleep.

Yours,

Hanna
