CHAPTER TWO

Getting out of the lounge, I felt an urge to look back at him. I turned and regretted the very next moment. He was right behind me, smirking. His hand which was about to reach me, brushed my cheek and I stumbled backwards.

"Oh cmon baby don't be scared, you know I can't hurt you right? " he returned to his mode, the nice lovey dovey husband, I wonder how he does that.

Without saying anything I left him standing there, I went to her room. As soon as I stepped in, preparing myself for all the lies, I saw her shining bright smile, her eyes twinkled. She was looking at me, she was smiling at me and I returned the gesture slightly tugging my lips upward.

The most difficult thing, a fake smile.

"Asalamoalaikum, how are you now?" I lowered my head, started looking at those machines which were attached to her. "I'm fine, I feel alot better today, you tell beta (daughter). I heard your voice last night, you screamed. Everything fine?"

I froze, having a look at her I immediately looked back, everywhere but not her. Her eyes held a question, her gaze making me uncomfortable. Uncomfortable because I just can't lie for the time being.

"Jee ammi, woh... I... I saw a cockroach. Be-dehaani main cheekh nikal gai." (Yes mom, actually... I... I saw a cockroach, the scream unexpectedly left my mouth) I stammered a bit, fully aware of his words.

I have cameras in this house all around, I heard you saying one word of the truth and you'll face the consequences.

"Ah... ammi (mom) I'll give you your medicines and then you have to go to sleep. You need rest to be fully active." She nodded and I picked up the medicines and gave it to her with a glass of water which she gulped all of it in just a sip.

"Aray mera beta aa gaya? Udhar kyun kharay ho? Idhar ao beta." (Oh my son's here? Why are you standing there? Come here.) She said pointing at one side of bed. I looked around and found him smiling at me and her. I faced mom again and heard some shuffling and felt him coming near me. He came by my side, held me by by waist from his left arm and held mom's hand from his other.

"Mom aap k pas hi kyun bethun? Aap dono k pas bethna chahiye, haina." (Mom why do I sit only with you? I have to sit with both of you, right?) His grip around my waist tightened, which hurts me now. Not that he never did. He always did.

"Yeah right, don't you have office today, leave my daughter in law alone and go. Let her rest too." She said casually and I freaked out inside out. He'll kill me for this. Why did you say that mom? You have no idea, no idea what will happen after that. I can sense his jaw clenched, his face muscles stiffened. His lips pressed together tightly.

Leave, leave from here Saba leave.

I mentally scolded myself. I wanted to get away from him. He'll push me to hell. Please don't take it seriously, just don't. Trust me I didn't said anything to her. She was just... saying.

"Allah Hafiz" (May God keep you safe) he said and left the room in a matter of a second.

His voice sensed angered. I visibly shivered at the mere thought of what would happen if I make him angry.

"Ammi I'll see you later too. Allah Hafiz." I said and she nodded and mumbled the sayings back.

Running towards my room without him noticing my presence, I quietly shed tears and out if sudden felt an arm around my waist. My throat dried, gulping wasn't helping in any way.

"You said that to her, didn't you?" he asked his tone wasn't hard in fact it was quite softer than his usual with me. Oh, we're right outside her room. I didn't say anything, I wasn't able to say anything. Through my eyes i pointed at her door and he held me from my forearm tightly and literally dragged me across the whole house to my room.

"Tell me, what did you say to her? Why she said that?" His voice loud now. My left ear started hurting again. And tears left my eyes.

"Kuch puch raha hoon, btati kyun nahi ho?" (I'm asking you something, why don't you tell me something?) he almost screamed and I winced in pain. His hand left my forearm leaving the place red, as if his finger prints are printed over there.

"Now you watch, now you watch what I'm gonna do with you." with that he left the room. I ran out of the room and went to face him. "I didn't do anything, trust me. I didn't. You can check. She just said that casually. I swear. Don't do this to me."

"Trust you? Believe... y-you? Believe this witch?" with that he burst into laughter, screams of laughter. The laughter of a monster. His finger pointed me and he continued laughing. I couldn't bear any longer and thought it's best to leave from there and feel pity on myself. Atleast there will be someone who will feel bad for me. Someone who will understand me that I didn't do anything wrong. It wasn't even my fault. Or my dad's.

Sooner I entered my room and dropped myself on the bed, the wooden bed to be exact. That did hurt me, but not more than he did.

Not more than his words did.

You have to prove him wrong Saba. You should, you would. And I'll let him see how much I suffered because of him, how much deep is the river of my tears. How he hurts me. You'll realise soon. Very soon Mr. Shehryaar.

Soon. The only hope.
