"You know what it's for, stop messing with me." I pull away from him just enough to send him a playful glare.
"I want to hear you say it." His breath hits my ear, head having moved quicker than my eyes could catch. My eyes find the two fallen from earlier watching us. I'm sure he's already well aware of it.
"Yes, I'm sure I'm fine. It stopped." I nuzzle my head into his neck, wanting to at least pretend the fallens' gazes aren't there. "Thanks to you."
"I'm going to pick you up now."
"I am still capable of walking." I try to argue as he stands, lifting me with him.
"We're not walking, we're running." He clarifies. With their speed, I wouldn't be able to keep up anyways.
"Oh." I hook my dangling arms around him, somewhat as a safety precaution, and somewhat to just hold him. Not that I'd admit the latter out loud.
"Don't trust me?" Amusement occupied his honey voice again, for real this time.
"You're the devil."
"Touche." Steps fill the silence, until they don't. The sounds of nature's nightly routine -- what I'd pegged as silence -- fell away from my ears, until nothing filled them. True, absolute silence. I wonder if they're running now, if we're going to fast for sound to catch us. Probably.
I don't feel him stop. I know he does, because I hear again. Hear the quiet noise of a different place, the steps of the fallen trailing after us, the slow sweetness of his voice.
"I'm going to need you to walk now."
"Kay." I slip from his arms, feet touching the ground. Earth. We're still on Earth. I watch as he reaches out, then as the ground falls away in front of us. "Dramatic." I comment, peering down the hole.
"Not afraid you're going to fall?" The fallen human sneers. "Not very wise really." I don't like him one bit.
"I have wings. Those tend to allow flight. And the giant void is big enough to fit my wingspan and then some, so it means I could fly quite well in it. Plus I was just in the arms of the one who made it, so I figure I'm safe anyways."
"You are." He confirms, honey voice slipping over me again. "Would it really fit your wingspan?"
"And then some. You've created quite a large chasm. I'm assuming there's a purpose to it as well?"
"There's our way home."
"A hole to Hell... At least it isn't a cloud staircase." If I die down there, I can officially say I died in a hole.
"They still have that? I'd have thought they'd have given up on stopping it from blowing away by now." The fallen angel speaks up now, chuckling.
"Nope. It's still up and running. And a pain. No one uses it except escorts. Why are you laughing?"
"I was supposed to stop it from blowing away, but they booted me before I had the chance."
"That is kinda funny." I glance at the hole again. "Do we just... jump?"
"Yup." He runs, leaping over the edge and flipping a few times as he goes down. The fallen human follows him, simply stepping over the edge and leaving me with my Destined.
"Ready?" He extends his hand. I take it. We step over the edge, falling into the abyss as it closes up above us. Falling causes my wings to automatically snap outwards, slowing my decent considerably. I pretty much stop. Slightly annoyed, I pull them inwards, holding them tight against my body. However, my Destined beats me to the ground, hand having slipped from mine shortly after my wings came out. I look up to find no one but him there. My wings return to their holding place inside my back and I follow after him.
