How long can a person roam around in darkness? Is it unknown or is there a point in your life when you can find that one tiny speck of light that brings out your better person?
'Is it pointless to search for it?' You ask yourself.
'Will it find me, or will everything always be monotone?'
The question rings loud and clear in the empty echoey space. Looking around you see nothing. But soon that nothing turns into everything.
I was walking down the street. To school again, of course. My headphones blaring music as I search for an emotion, music being my closest friend. It's silly how we find ourselves in music, always listening to it as it warms our souls. The streets; well there's not much to say.. they're monotone. The huge buildings are towering over my small person and they all seem grey, even though most are brightly coloured. The sky is beautiful but it's the exact same copy of yesterday's sky. Grey. People pass next to me and give me weird stares but I'm used to it. Anybody would stare at a small girl with a huge backpack hanging of off her shoulders as she bounces up the street. The people too, are monotone to me. Their hairs, faces, eyes and everything are so similar that they blend in together. I never remember anyone, to be honest. I'm tiered, as always. Always waking up so early and even earlier to repeat my studies. I'm young I know but I have to work hard to get what I want; a future. It's cold out. My hot breath gets caught up in the freezing air as it forms smoke. A small smile paints my lips as I look up again, the bags under my eyes felt heavy as the gentle cold wind brushes against my cheeks. I was nearing my school, walking and letting out a shaky sigh as my hands trembled, being afraid of the upcoming exams today. I was and still am in my own world, my own fantasy as I find people my age boring. They are all the same to me. Making stupid jokes; same ones over and over again, getting the same haircuts, dressing in the same style.. so on, you get my point. I stood in front of the massive gate of my private school, closing my eyes once more as I had about forty minutes before classes started. Humming a small melody to myself I pushed forward, going trough the gate and closing it behind me. I was early. Very early actually, only a few people roamed around. The massive academy stood in front of me in its full glory, white marble walls shining in the morning light. The big windows were very clear, being cleaned yesterday. In class I was known as the 'mute girl'. It's not that I didn't like talking, I did but I found no reason to do so. I never had many friends as I found no reason to befriend any people at my school. Everyone talks behind everyone's backs, everyone is always talking bad about everyone and someone is always left out. So the routine repeats over and over. It's pretty sad actually, but when you isolate yourself no one really finds a reason to bother you. I walked around the big school yard, closing my eyes again; I knew where I was going and there wasn't anything to bump into.. Or so I thought. After a few more steps I found myself slamming into a 'wall' of some sorts. I stumbled backwards and shot open my eyes, getting scared. In front of me stood a boy. He was at least 20 centimetres taller then me as his orbs looked down on me, an apologetic look on his face. He quickly bowed down and apologised profusely:
"Oh my! I'm so very sorry! I didn't see you there! Are you hurt? I hope you're okay! Oh god.." He straightened back up and looked at me again, my own steel orbs locking onto his. And at that moment my world stopped spinning. For the first time in years I saw the colour of his eyes. The most beautiful ocean blue eyes sparkled as they looked at me with concern, his hand wrapped around my upper arm as he saved me from falling. Then everything went in slow motion. The grey world around me.. It started getting coloured. Everything started gaining its appropriate bright colour. The trees looked so much greener, the sky went a beautiful baby blue and my uniform got its redness back, the small grey bow on my chest now shining crimson. My eyes started searching for his again and I found them. Some wavy onyx locks fell onto his perfectly proportioned face as he still looked at me with worry. I gulped and only nodded, being unable to speak a word at the moment; I honestly had no idea what was going on. My whole world just lightened up and over my earphones I finally heard the cars passing by, the few people talking and my music. The earphones that were still in my ears played some song, that I finally found meaning of. He gave me a small smile and let my arm go, nervously rubbing the back of his head.
"Hey, I'm new here!"
He chirped, blue hues closing and opening again ever so slowly as he chuckled
"I hope we can be in the same class, and I look forward to this year with you!"
His bubbly voice and personality rang trough my head, over the music, over the sounds of the streets, over my racing heartbeat.
I gave him a small smile and nodded as he shook my hand and walked away happily to the office, probably to get his time table.
And suddenly in my thoughts I heard a small water drop. A small white glowing orb went trough the empty abyss and I hesitantly reached out to it. As soon as my fingertips glided across it it glowed brighter then anything. And no longer was the abyss cold; it was no longer an abyss at all. It was a beautiful flower field, filled with colours, smells and sounds.
