Allison's Point of View:
Breathe in.
Chin up.
Shoulders back.
Show no emotion.
I quickly peeked at my reflexion in the mirror before I left for school. I adjusted my tight bun and smoothed my glossy blonde hair, making sure that not a single strand was out of place. There. Now everything was perfect. I exited my house and started the short walk to school, all the while examining the scenery closely.
The sun was shining, the birds were chirping, and not a single cloud interrupted the baby blue sky. There was a scent of freshly cut grass, mixed with the remnant smells from the barbecue the neighbours had last night. A light spring breeze lazily wafted through the air, stirring the leaves in the trees, causing them to gently sway back and forth. In other words, the day was picture perfect.
I absolutely despised it all.
I hated the fact that my brother wasn't here to enjoy this experience with me. He was so young when he passed, only seventeen years old. He was a straight-As student, a teachers pet. Everyone at school adored him.
That's why it should've been me.
Before Johan... before he... before the unspeakable occurred, I was an overly preppy girl. Even though I wasn't the best student, I managed to get by with somewhat decent grades. The teachers didn't hate me, I had a group of semi-friends, but most importantly I was always happy. After all, it was hard to be sad when I had Johan to talk to all the time.
It's been nearly two months since cancer took Johan away from me, but it feels like I've lived a million lifetimes. I haven't so much as laughed, cried, or even smiled ever since.
So far I have kept my promise to you, Johan.
And I vow, I always will.
I hadn't realized that I had quickened my pace due to my angry thoughts, and Justin Trudeau High was just visible to my left. As I spotted a few other students heading to school, I forced myself to slow down, walk normally. I couldn't be scene in my angry state! I have to be strong, not only for me, but for Johan as well.
You must stay strong.
Show no emotion.
Keep your promise.
I entered the large high school and headed towards my locker. As I put in my combination, I heard footsteps approach from behind me, followed by a familiar voice.
"Hi Allison!" Jennifer exclaimed. A pretty brunette with a tan complexion stood before me. Jennifer is considered one of the "populars" at school, so that means that she has to try to befriend everyone.
Including me.
Inwardly I groaned, but I managed to maintain a straight face as I replied in a monotonous voice.
"Hello, Jennifer. Lovely weather we're having today."
"Um... I guess it's pretty warm outside for the middle of March..."
Jennifer then paused, possibly contemplating why she talks to me in the first place.
"Oh! I just remembered!" Jennifer pipped up.
"I was doing my science homework last night and I got stuck on question four, part b. Do you think you could tell me what your answer was?"
I knew that the only way to get rid of her was to tell her the answer, so I did.
