The one where they're both at university and Troye sings a song in a coffee shop which leads him to Jacob but has too many things to fear to actually tell anybody about it [37k]

Troye's eyes were trained on the ground, making sure he didn't slip as he walked on the sidewalk, which was littered with patches of ice and snow. The fancy velvet pomegranate shoes he was wearing didn't have the best traction if he said so himself, so making sure he didn't fall on his ass and make a fool of himself was his biggest priority. He make sure to skip the puddles and potholes and before he knew it, he was at his destination. He turned and walked into his favorite coffee shop, as he does every Monday night. Monday nights were for studying and only studying. Finals time was approaching in just over a month and after failing his last bio final, forcing him to retake the class, he swore he'd never fail another test ever ever again.

He loved this cute little coffee shop so much. It had ambiance and was very pretty, littered with lots of tables and soft chairs and ottoman's. But he always sat at his favorite spot in the northeast corner. It was a four person table sat with a candle, a pretty little succulent, and a mini chandelier over the top. There was lots of space to spread out all his books and notes, good lighting and most importantly- it was away from everyone else. It was a secluded table and he liked that. Troye wasn't super antisocial- well fuck, that was a blatant lie. Because he was. He just didn't like admitting it, he liked to tell himself he was just introverted. He always kept to himself and didn't really speak unless spoken to. Especially in class. Everyone was too rowdy and wild for him. Anytime anyone would ask him why he was so quiet he always had the same answer. "I just am," and it seemed to suffice for most people. He had two best friends named Adam and Marc and he didn't feel like he needed anyone else. Adam and Marc had a plethora of friends that Troye was friendly with and might give a head nod if he were to see walking around on campus, but that and chugging a beer or two every time Marc hosted a party at their apartment was pretty much the extent of his relationship with those people.

Sometimes he got sick of Marc's parties. It seemed like people were hanging out and drinking at their little apartment which was just off campus nearly every other weekend. Thats why he created this little safe haven at this coffee shop. He was here every Saturday night when the apartment was a little too crazy and he just needed a place to get away for the evening. He constantly told them he was going to hang out with other friends. Friends he had met in classes, or around campus. He didn't really want to tell them that he didn't really have any other friends. The two were incredibly social beings- frankly it's a surprise they still put up with him, so he was too embarrassed to tell them that they were his sole dependance for friendship.

Whatever. He was okay with how things were. He listened to the clicking of his boots as he made his way to his table but as he passed the other tables in the shop, he noticed there seemed to be more people than usual. It was usually pretty quiet with some regulars and some small groups of kids studying together, and some elders having their daily coffee. But tonight there were a lot more people and a lot more noise than he was used to. He didn't think much of it as he was walking back to his table. Once he spotted it though- he stopped and realized there were people already sitting at it. It was a group of three guys. Troye didn't know them personally but he knew they weren't his type of people. He thought one of them might've been named Caspar...he might've seen him at a party once. He knew they smoked a lot of weed and fucked a lot of girls. Of course he and Marc and Adam had their own fun with weed and alcohol, but in a much less braggy and douchey way. Those guys just reeked of misogyny and bigotry and Troye was too scared to admit it, but he knew they were probably homophobic as well. Most frat guys at this university were. The corners of his lips pulled into a light frown, sad that he won't have his favorite spot tonight. That was fine though, he could sit somewhere else. He opted for a smaller, two person table that was a few tables over. That was fine too, all he needed to do tonight was finish an essay on an extensive history of Chanel and her impact on the fashion world. Thats usually what being a Fashion Merchandising major was, lots of math and lots of fashion.
