Based on the journal entries of Levi Caverly on the disappearance of his girlfriend, Samantha Hart.
Her departure was too soon.
The sun hung bright in the cloudless blue sky: a day that had finally fit my mood. The past few weeks had been the worst in my entire life. The death of my friends Noah and James had devastated all of my family and friends. No one really knew what to do after they had died. My family and I didn't know if we should comfort and care for their families, or if we should have just never spoken to them again.
Then I met Samantha, and she was beautiful.
I didn't know how to react to her when I first laid eyes on her. It was as if I was stuck in an endless carousel of my own confusing emotions. She appeared to be crying hysterically when I saw her, her face shiny and blotchy, with tears swelling it up even more than her acne already did. Her hair was frizzed because of humidity outside in the cemetery, and she seemed to be in a daze to it all, but I still thought she was beautiful.
When she noticed my watching her, she spoke to me and seemed to be lonely, oh so lonely. I pitied her.
I had no clue what to say to this girl, so I guess I just let her do most of the talking. Hopefully she didn't think that I didn't care. Maybe that's why she went missing. Maybe she couldn't take anybody anymore because she thought no one cared!
Oh, what I am I doing, jumping to conclusions? I'm not supposed to break this easily. The only person I've broken down on was Samantha. I cried hysterically in her arms a few days after James and Noah died.
Enough dwelling on memories.
I first noticed something going wrong when Samantha suddenly left me an appalling voicemail saying she had to leave and that she was never coming back. But when she mentioned leaving, she didn't mean a breakup...she spoke about meeting in some other world where things would be different, and that my memories of her would be nonexistent...
Police questioned me thoroughly, but nothing seemed to help them with the case. Samantha was gone. There was no evidence of her escaping or being captured.
The case still hasn't been resolved. All I know is that a girl whom I had begun to fall in love with, a girl who made me feel like no one else had made me feel in my years of living, had vanished.
Left me behind to rot within my grief.
When you lose someone you love, your world shatters like a rock smashing into a glass door. It's too hard to repair something that's been broken so badly; one simply replaces it. But a heart that's shattered can't be replaced.
