Ode to Walls

Such big strong walls you are,
There for me to lean on,
Sheltering me from all the troubles within the outside world.

You are not acknowledged as much as you should be,
But one day, you shall,
As you protect me from the outside that I wish to not seek.

Most of the time,
You are ignored, forgotten that you ever existed,
Yet you are always there by my side.

You are there all at once,
Left and right, up and down, front and back,
Barely ever leaving my sight.

You are the one who keeps the house together,
Keeping us safe from the temper tantrum that Mother Nature has,
Keeping us warm, or keeping us cool at different times of the year.

But one day, you will not be strong enough,
Strong enough to withstand the pressure,
The pressure of the wind blowing on you and pulling you down.

No matter how strong you once were,
The time will come,
When you will suddenly fall apart.

Once the time comes,
People will forget how much you have done for them,
And only remember what is left of you: a weak and broken wall.

You almost never failed to support the house,
Always there in times of need,
Always there to comfort and to tell us that we are not alone.

That you will be there,
Sheltering us no matter what happens unless natural disasters occur,
Yet you will still be there, maybe deformed.

Although you may be forgotten,
Always in the background,
You are the most important thing to the house, to us, to everyone.
