The fall

"WOOOOAAAAAAAAAHHHH HOLY SHI--" i yelled to myself not being able to do anything else while my ears popped from the sounds of wind rushing past me.

Jules, my bestfriend since i was very little couldn't hear me from the wind, was laughing or atleast looked like she was laughing at me during our very fast descent.

We were falling fairly fast, almost terminal velocity fast which was very scary at this point. And all i could do at this moment was recall how i even got to this shitty challange with her.

-------------------20 min earlier-----------------

"Aleks are you sure you are up to this?" Questioned Jules with a very big smile. "You don't have much of an affinity for air magic, hell even magic in general" laughed Jules.

"OK just because i have some trouble bringing my magic out DOESN'T mean i dont have any, we've gone through this plus i think i can beat you this time." I confidently said with a beat of sweat running down my head.

"Cmon Aleks we both know you don't have any magic affinity at all, which is weird because all the people of this world have the power to bring out some type of magic from their insignias on their palms." She stated "And your insignia is completely black, the first ever to be recorded and is incapable of producing any sort of magic." She said while pointing a finger upwards like she knows everything in the world.

"Just because my insignia is different dossent mean its completely useless who knows if it can't produce magic, maybe I just haven't been trying hard enough, ever think about that." I said confidently not realizing i just insulted myself.

"Whatever you say, so you brought your board right?" Jules questioned.

"Yep i got it right here." Lightly taping a huge tree bark that i refer to as my "board".

"So do you want me to give you a boost or do you feel like wasting hours trying to summon magic out." She questioned while laughing at the end.

"Yeah ill take the boost...." i whispered knowing it was quicker if i said yes.

"Ok and just because I'm feeling extra gracious ima give you a little something." Jules said with a devilish grin

"What does that mean" I said slightly concerned as i stood on top of the "board".

"Who knows." She playfully shrugged "I guess its time for you to find OUT" she exclaimed to me

And before i even got to ask what that meant i saw something that always amazes me.

Jules insignia on her left hand glowed a bright green color and seemed to almost command the air around the "board" to do as she says.

"JET STREAM." She yelled while pointing her left hand up, and like if the air itself knew what she meant. It moved under the board and immediately shot it upwards with me on it hundreds of feet with incredible force.

Jules then waited for a bit and activated her power again and shot herself upwards after me at an even faster rate.

I really wished i had any magic affinity even to air magic, the lamest of all the magics in my opinion right now. Because the floor was getting closer at an alarming rate and i had no way of landing.

And it didnt help that Jules shot past me like it was nothing in a matter of seconds. All i could do was scream for my life and watch her go higher.

"GOD DAMMIT,WORK PLEASE." I yelled at my insignia desperately trying to make it do anything as the floor was getting closer.

To my surprise Jules was already next to me but slightly behind so i couldn't see her in my line of sight and just waiting for the moment to save me.

Falling very fast i was beginning to feel scared alot more scared than every other time ive challanged her. "WHY DO I DO THIS TO MYSELF." I yelled as i looked and saw the floor so very close to me

"PLEASE I DON'T WANT TO HIT THE FLOOR." I yelled one last time at my insignia before hitting the ground.

I shut my eyes and squeled "nooooooooooooo." And just waited for my doom to start and to my surprise it didn't.

Slowly i opened my eyes and saw below me that the wind below was spiraling around me to slow my descent

Lightly tapping the ground all sense of fear left me immediately and only dread was felt now "Dammit its always the same outcome why do i always get so scared." I questioned myself

"Its the fear of you dying horribly thats making you forget that I'm always here." Jules said while floating down

"I guess i should say thank you." I begrudgingly said to her

"I guess you should" Jules said with a smirk then sticking out her hand for me to grab

"I don't know why you get so scared every single time you challenge me, its not like I'm gonna let you die." She said while laughing as i grabbed her hand.

"Har har o laugh it up Jules im sorry i get so scared but if you were in my position you would be too." I stated.

"Having no power and basically asking to die, huh i guess i would be scared" she said while laughing even harder.

"Whatever Jules i promise you thi-." I started to say before i got cut of by Jules.

"I promise you this, i will unlock my powers and i will beat you and all of the magic guardsmen and be the one to solve the mystery of our predecessors death and stand at the top as a king." Jules mockingly said

"Well I'm glad you remember the words" I said slightly mad.

"Well whatever your dream is i'll gladly stand by your side through all of it". Jules said happily with a smile which surprised me because she sounded serious at the same time.

"Now c'mon we got to clean the church now it is our turn after all, priest David will scold us if we don't get it done." She said while patting my back and walking ahead.

"And don't worry you can challenge me again tomorrow for the what, 1,567th time." She said while turning back.

"Actually it would be the 1,598th time and ill beat you next time." I said while running to catch up to her.
