Introduction; Maren

Maren was a very talented young lady. She excelled in many areas such as shooting, archery, naturalist skills, and most survival skills in general. In fact, she was so talented she had been selected from a select few to travel south and compete in an olympics of sorts for young adults. In a few days she would be leaving for Florida to show off the skills she had acquired from years of camping, hunting, fishing, and just spending time outdoors. 

All she knew about the competition was that she would be using her survival skills to compete against other kids her own age, around 17 to 21, to see who could survive alone outside the longest. It would be broadcasted nationwide, and they would be in a fenced off area of around 200 miles, observed by caretakers to make sure everything went smoothly and no one got too terribly hurt. They would be provided with everything they could need, including a shotgun or bow, and a backpack full of various items such as a flashlight, a canteen, and some matches. She wasn't sure how it would go, as Florida was completely different from Kentucky, But it sounded like a fun experience and she was willing to try.

She sat on her bed, staring out the window at the summer Kentucky landscape. She was supposed to be packing, but her back hurt, so she decided to take a short break. She pulled the plane ticket from under her pillow and observed it for the thousandth time.

But her father was worried. "Are you sure you wouldn't like us to come with you? We wouldn't mind buying our own tickets," and "You'll be all alone, how do we know we can trust these people?" were his personal favorites.

But Maren was stubborn there was NO WAY she wasn't going to Florida.
