Naomi Christine | Nai

Tox•ic
/ˈtäksik/
1. Poisonous.

We ran into our treehouse, or what we call our girls hideout, then quickly got down.

"Ready or not here I come.." I heard my older brother Adon say.

I looked over at Waya (Y-ah) and we both held in a laugh. She put her hand over my mouth and I squealed.

I looked out the treehouse window to see Adon running up towards it. "Come on, we have to go Nai-Nai!" Waya said calling me by the nickname she gave me.

We both ran down the treehouse steps eager to get away from Adon.

"Waya we got away!!" I yelled to her. She didn't respond so I turned around to see no Waya was in sight.

"Wa-Wa! Where are you?" No response.

A crying Adon appeared with blood all over him. "Adon what happened?"

He slowly shook his head letting a tear drop fall. "It's Waya, I think she's dead.."

She's dead. She's dead.

I woke up in a bed of sweat, and tears for the 6th night. It was three o' clock in the morning.

Sighing I got up from the bed, pulling the sheets up with me. I wiped the tears from my eyes walking down the steps to put them into the washer.

I walked back up the stairs going into my bathroom. The person I seen in the mirror wasn't pleasant. I looked like I haven't slept in years.

I haven't been the same since the death of my younger sister, Waya. Even though it was a few years back, I still couldn't seem to process the fact that she's dead.

It's kinda like when she died, I died too. I barely even get out these days, and mostly don't talk.

I put my face under the sink water for a few seconds, then came back up. I quickly dried my face off, then went to get some more sheets.

I put the sheets down, turned off the lights, and made myself go back to sleep.

"Naomi Chanel Christine, why haven't you touched your food?" My gram asked as we sat at the table.

My grandma is my rock. She's been with me since I was a kid, and I think of her as my mother since I never met mine.

I sighed and took a deep breath. "Gram I don't know how to say this.. but.. I'm having those dreams again."

She finished the last of her orange juice, then just looked at me.

I sniffled some more. "Well....?"

"Naomi baby, I think I know why you may be having these dreams." She said to me.

I gave her a confused look. "Can you tell me why?"

"Probably because of this house. I mean this is the house that she died at. The room where she used to sleep in, and all."

That did make sense. I started to say something but got cut off. "Before you say anything, we will be moving to another house. We will be moving to Baton Rouge." She told me making me hop up and hug her.

I cried into her shirt while she comforted me. I cried tears of sadness for my sister, and tears of joy because I can finally get a fresh start and get a chance to be happy again.

I knew this is what my sister would've wanted.
