I screamed out in horror as I looked over to the wheel, his body still and bloody wrapped under the wreckage of the car.

'Nooo!' It came out as a throaty sob as I reached over to him finding any kind of pulse. My ears were still ringing from the crash, my head pounded but apart from that and the salty blood taste in my mouth I was left without a scratch. Why? What did I do to deserve to live?

Nothing.

I'm an orphan with two friends, Betty who I've known all my life and my boyfriend Sam. Sam had so much more out of life than I did, he was in college studying human biology and Economics, he has friends and a loving family. He even donates £2 a week for a snow leopard he's never even met, always thought about anything but himself. He couldn't leave me I loved him.

I pulled at his seatbelt but it was no use it had jammed from the impact, my hands too shaky and my vision still blurred. I simply leant over and clung to his shirt.

'Don't leave me.' I cried wanting to feel those lips on mine just one last time. I reached up with the sudden urge to kiss him, every bone in my body told me I could save him. If only it was that easy, life wasn't a fairytale and Sam wasn't sleeping beauty.

I felt warmth tingle my lips as I leaned over and placed them on his cold lifeless ones. A tear fell down my cheek I could've sworn it had evaporated from the heat of my mouth.

Something was happening.

I was being delusional, maybe this was the afterlife and I wasn't so lucky after all but something strange was happening.

I saw a black smoke leave my lips and enter his mouth, all the energy building up inside me plunged into his body leaving me breathless and shook with pins and needles in every muscle.

Sams eyes began to flutter as the colour washed back in his face.

'Luna.' He whimpered.

I exhaled in relief seeing those brown eyes one more time. A passer by pounded on the door trying to break through.

'Hold tight I'll get help.' She yelled pulling out her phone.

The next day I went back to the apartment to get some clothes to stay with Sam, he wasn't lucky enough to get discharged, he still had a fractured shoulder, spine and a broken leg but anything was better than being dead.
Betty was waiting for me, she probably had a million questions as I told her not to bother coming to the hospital and as I figured she sat waiting in anticipation.

'Luna! How are you?! Wait, stupid question how's Sam?'

'He's alive.' I shrugged grabbing a duffle bag and shoving in anything I could find out my drawers.

'Are you staying at the hospital?' She asked following behind me like I was some precious miracle.

'I need to be with him, he can't move at the moment but after the operation they're saying it's a 70% chance he'll be able to walk. That's something right?' I needed reassuring. Sams family had also agreed to go along with the operation.

'What's the other 30?%' Betty asked stopping me from walking around in circles.

'He could be paralysed for the rest of his life.' I swallowed and so did Betty.

'That's a good percentage though I'm sure everything will be okay right?' She sat me down for a minute needing my comfort as much as I needed hers.
Like me, Betty was also an orphan I met at a foster home when I was 8. We both did everything together like sisters, she was the only family I ever had.

'I'm scared Betty.'

'I know hon, I know.' She pulled me into a tight hug, smoothing my long untamed hair.

'What if it ends up all bad? Then he'll hate me forever. It'll all be my fault, he won't want a life of being looked after.' I sobbed.

'Don't even go there, none of this is your fault.'

'It is, we wouldn't have gone on the stupid trip if I didn't suggest it, we should've just stayed and gone to his mums like every god damn week.' He wouldn't be alive if I didn't kiss him. I thought to myself.

For days I sat beside his bed, holding his hand waiting for his operation day, before they put him to sleep and down into theatre I got 15 minutes to say bye.

'Don't miss me.' He grinned as if it was nothing. My eyes were sore holding back the tears I had been hiding from him.

'You won't even be gone long enough to miss.' I faked my enthusiasm.

'Yeah right I know you miss my ass already.' He stuck his tongue out. I smiled but it soon faded as I noticed the time.

'Do you remember the day we went on that bike ride and you sprained your ankle from jumping across the river?' I asked laughing remembering the excuse he gave his mum as to why he got home so late and how he fell in the lake after missing the jump completely.

'Yeah I had to tell my mum I pissed myself because she told us not to go down there and she ended up contemplating an even worst case scenario.' He scrunched his face up.

'The look on her face when she saw you walk in with no pants, and me stood behind you.' We both laughed and he winced in pain.

'She knew we were inseparable.' I whispered staring into his deep chocolate eyes, my eyes darted to his lips missing the way they felt on mine. He knew what I was looking at and smirked.

'You only have to ask.' He winked.
Every bone in my body told me not to kiss him but I couldn't refuse when it could be the last time I'd see him and his smile.

I leaned over feeling the electricity pull from his lips.

'I love you Luna.' He murmured, I savoured those words and the huskiness of the way he said it.

I kissed him softly, the hunger for more grew deep in my belly. My hands knitted through his dusty brown curls and when I realised he had stopped kissing me back I pulled away, opening my eyes I saw the last of the black smoke as I inhaled it.

I choked immediately as the warm smoke traveled down my throat.
The sound of Sams heart monitor stopped beeping turning into a dull loud noise.
'No! Sam! No please!' I stifled. His hand lost grip on mine and his eyes remained wide, no longer the chocolate brown ones I knew but charcoal black.

Nurses rushed through almost knocking me out of the shock bubble I was in.

'Code blue! The patient is unresponsive we need a doctor immediately.' One nurse said, she was also panicked but I felt nothing but emptiness.
Someone's hand grabbed mine escorting me out the room, they could've been talking to me for all I knew.

I didn't know how long I had been sat down drowning in nothingness until a doctor come out and addressed Sams parents.

'I'm so sorry it's not good news.' His mum wailed into her husbands arms, I still didn't feel anything. The doctor said his heart had failed from the trauma and he did everything to revive him.

'Luna?' A familiar voice said. I looked up to see Betty's sad expression.

'I need to be sick.' Was the first words that left my mouth. I felt Betty's arm lift off my shoulder as I rushed over to the toilets.
What was wrong with me? No one would believe a word I'd say, I'd be put straight on medication talking about a deathly black smoke and killing Sam through a kiss.

Then it hit me, I took back Sams life I gave him. I killed him.
