Chapter Three: Key to The Impossible

Start from the beginning

Blake began walking backward, gave me a piece sign, and walked back over to his spot in the crowd. I didn't get what he meant- about the whole bracelet thing and how he just knew. I've heard about Reverse Flash.

Eobard Thawne, flash enthusiast and professor at the Flash Museum. It all started when he was younger, visting the Flash Museum and obsessing with the idea of Barry Allen and the way he moved. So, Eobard made himself just like him and became the Flash of the 25th century. It was the first time that my dad had jaunted himself into the future, and he befriended the 25th century's Flash.

It didn't take long for my dad to realize that he wasn't just saving people, but he was putting them in danger in the first place so he could be the hero that saved them. The two fought-- with my dad coming out of the fight as the obvious victor. Eobard attempted to turn his life around. After traveling back in time, Eobard was determined to inform my dad that he had come back seeking redemption. Instead, he was greeted with the moment where my dad had shared the same moment as he had with Eobard- with the original Wally West.

Eobard became enraged-- how could his friend have done this? Instead of letting it roll of his back like any sane person would, he returned to his time and began plotting the end of Barry Allen. The rest is history.

Superman's booming voice snapped me back to reality again, his voice bouncing around the room and scaring a handful of the rest of the crowd, "We're going to have a lot of fun here. Since this is the first week of school, I'm going to be giving you homework." The crowd of students responded with groans and several whines.

"But do not fear," He continued. "The rest of the year will be filled with plenty of fun and games. Just because this is power training doesn't mean it's going to be all boring stuff. Yes, we will train, but I plan on making this fun."

The classroom, or should I say class-building, was a lot like Superman's fortress of solitude. The inside was definitely made of ice, but the outside was made of some sort of "super metal", powerful enough to fend off the likes of a Kryptionian.

"I'm going to be parring you up for your first fighting session." Superman said, retrieving a list from a block of ice that was next to him.

"Excuse me, Mr. Kent?" Called a female voice from the back of the crowd.

It took Superman a moment to look to the back of the crowd to see the person who was talking. "Ah, Ms. O'Brien. What's your question?"

The girl's voice became more high pitched hen she began talking the next time. "How are we supposed to fight each-other, if some of us don't know how to fight or don't have any natural powers?" Whispers surfed among the crowd.

Superman responded with a laugh. "That brings me to our very first thing. I know that not may of you have naturally born powers," The crowd groaned and whined once again. "and that some of you may want them. So, for those who do, we have dug something special up for you. Bring it in, Kara."

Something shot through the wind like a bullet, only to zoom over the crowd and stop at Superman's feet. Once the dust clear- and yes, there was dust, all of the students were met with the surprise of Kara Zor-El, Supergirl. She fumbled with something in her hands before handing it over to Superman.

Supergirl heaved a sighed before turning and standing next to him. "Hello, kids. You probably know who I am, but for those who don't, I'm Supergirl. What we have here-- at least what my cousin is holding, is the orb of Krypton." She said nervously, fixing her hair.

As per usual, the crowd of kids began to mumbling again asking several questions. "Sorry, this is my first time doing this sort of thing. It's weird when an adult is nervous around kids, huh? But anyway, you must be wondering how this works. So basically, we never had our own green lantern because- sadly- our original one died at an early age and his ring was lost."

She looked at Superman for approval, and he responded with a nod and a smile. "Under normal circumstances, we would be given another one. Instead, for whatever reason, the only thing that they found was this here orb." Superman lifted up the orb, which looked like one of those globes you would find in a second grade classroom. The only different? It was bright neon and all of the green was replaced by a navy blue.

"So," Superman continued the speech instead. "It simply grants you the power it feels would best fit you, while using the emotional spectrum to analyse you. If you would like to be granted a power from the orb, please line up in front of Kara. The orb needs at least two Kryptonians to activate it, so we will hold it together."

The crowd went wild- most of them pushing and shoving to form a line. When Superman finally got them to calm down, Benjamin Palmer was up first. The room fell silent as Superman and Supergirl placed their palms on the orb, which grew brighter as a respond to their touch. After mumbling something in an unknown language, the rest of the orb crowded around the other side to see what he would get.

"Telepathy," Said the female humanoid voice of the orb. "Category, common. Significant supers with this ability; Marian Manhunter, Spectre, Kent Nelson Doctor Fate, Allan Scott, Miss Martian, and Raven."

"Not a bad power, Mr. O'Brien. Your father should be thrilled." Superman commented, Ben walking back into the crowd with a smug look on his face. There were several kids who came after, getting powers like super strength, flight, shape-shifting, manipulation of elements (Earth, fire, water, wind, ice), invisibility, etc.

When it was my turn, Superman called my name and all eyes turned to me as I stepped closer toward the orb. I could almost feel the weight of everybody's eyes, some people curious and a lot of them probably going to end up jealous. "I've been excited for your arrival, Max. You're a very interesting boy from what I've heard." Superman whispered, placing is hands on the orb. "Are you ready?"

"Ready as I'll ever be, sir." I whispered back, placing my hand on the orb. The orb grew warm at my touch, and I could smell cinnamon when I moved my head closer to it. That's when my vision blurred, and the room went black.

When I opened my eyes, I sat on an off-white chair inside a pure-white void. I heard nothing, expect the ringing in my ears as if I was listening to music for a couple of hours. I'd done it before dozens of times. There was nobody with me, just the off-white chair and me. It wasn't long before I got up and started walking around.

After I had stomped around for awhile, nothing happened. No trap doors. When I took off at a fats run, attempting to create a tornado, the only thing I was able to make was a few sparks of red light. Then I tried to see if I could run so fast I phased through the wall, but instead I never hit a wall. There were no walls. I was really confused. Where had the orb taken me? And, more importantly, would I be trapped here forever?
