I broke free
Quick to be covered in sand
Okay not free
Not yet for me
My brothers and sisters made it hard to breath
But as more of us soon became free from the shells that held us be
I knew I was getting closer to being free
I had seen nothing but sand but yet I knew of the ocean that awaited me
We dug at the sand
We didn't know what awaited us but we felt no fear or uncertainty
After all how could we?
And then I saw it
A blinding light that I had never known
It filled our dark soon to be empty home
I saw the creatures
They were huge
Far different from me
And instantly I knew they were not made for the sea like me
I could taste it
The salt in the air as the waves sung to me
The beasts made strange noises
They were not normal voices
I did not fear them and they left me be
I powered on, thrashing as I propelled myself along the sandy shore
I had my siblings around me as I felt the cool of the water
Even more determined
I went into full drive
As the grey skies seemed to illuminate the way
Free
Free
I thought to myself
I felt a wave engulf me
I was gone but what met me I knew was not the life I had wanted when I said free
I saw it
before I felt it
And I knew it could not be
I had known no fear in the sand
But I felt no greater fear than what lay in front of me
A creature as grey as the sky above me
It's teeth almost the size of me
And then I was gone and now you see
There is no such thing as being truly free.
