Chapter 5 - Almost There

Napapikit ako sa narinig. Damn, hindi dapat ako magpadala.

"Uh, you don't miss me?"

There's a sense of mockery and tease on her voice. Tiningnan ko siya ng mabuti, bawat galaw ng bibig pati na ng kaniyang mga mata.

"We need to stop this, Gene."

Nakita kong nawala ang mga ngiti sa labi niya. She shot me an intense glare.

"Come again, Sab?"

"I said, let's stop this. Last night was a mistake. I should have not said those things."

I can still remember the intensity of our kiss last night and I know it will do no good to me if I'll let my stupidity rule over my sanity.

"What are you talking about, Sabrina?"

"Eto. Tayo. Itigil na natin ito habang maaga pa. I can't be with you, you know that."

Nakita kong nag-igting ang kanyang mga bangang at kumuyom ang kanyang kamao.

"Is this about Vannah?"

"This is not just about Vannah, for Pete's sake! May boyfriend na ako, Gene!"

Mas lalong umigting ang kanyang mga bagang.

"Are you fucking sure about this? Because the next time you'll ask me again, I won't ever let you go."

Napayuko ako. Hindi ko alam pero nasasaktan ako. God, posible palang magmahal sa sandaling panahon lang? Maling panahon, maling tao. Mali lahat. Mas masakit pala masaktan kapag mali.

"I'm sorry, Gene."

She just shot me one last look and went out the office. Naiwan akong mag-isang umiiyak.

I did the right thing.

"HEY, are you okay hija?"

That's Mom. We're having a dinner at a formal dining restaurant together with Dad. Matagal na din since last nagkita. Parati kasing busy sa negosyo sina Dad at Mom. Dad was a former senator kaya talagang busy pa din ito kahit nag-retire na sa politika.

"I'm fine, Mom. Marami lang akong iniisip."

I saw Dad's glance at me. He looked stern serious, as always.

"Sabrina, why are you not married yet? Nasa tamang edad naman kayo ni Elvis."

Napalingon ako kay Dad. The last time he brought up this topic , nag-panic ako. Pakiramdam ko kasi, hindi pa ako handang matali kay Elvis. Alam ko namang mahal ko siya, but not enough for me to marry him. Mas lalo ngayon, hindi ko alam kung mahal ko talaga si Elvis. Simula nang dumating si Gene.

Si Gene na naman.

"Dad, I'm not yet ready."

"Elvis is a big catch hija. He's almost perfect and I can see how much he loves you."

Umiling ako kay Mommy. I feel like I'm so against of the idea of marrying Elvis. Nagrerebelde ang puso ko.

What the hell Sab! What is happening to you!

"Fuck you, Gene!"

Napalingon kami sa babaeng sumigaw hindi kalayuan sa amin. I was stunned when I saw her. She was slapped by the woman yesterday sa shop habang kaharap sa mesa ang ibang babae.

"Who is she, Eugene?!"

Damn, dito pa talaga sila nag-away. Mukhang nagkahulihan silang tatlo. My heart ached as I saw her acting like she doesn't care despite of what's happening right now.
