pounding drums

pounding drums

all they know how to do is pound

because pounding drums are made for pounding

just as fire is made to burn

and water made to splash

music boxes made to turn

and swords are made to slash

pounding drums like to make noise

it is what they are good at

so why wouldn't they like it?

sometimes i like to think that pounding drums do more

maybe a drum learned to sing

and it sang a beautiful song

like a bird made from leather and wood

but for now

pounding drums

go a'pounding

just as blazes go on burning

and rapids go on splashing

ballerinas keep on turning

and pounding drums keep pounding
