It's been about two days since we've left the barren and deserted hospital. We don't have a plan at all, but we have to just keep surviving.

"Lynn let's go." I hear Daryl say as he picks up his pack and launches it over his shoulder.

I push myself on to my feet and wipe my hands off from the moist dirt that stuck to my palms and grab my bag and do the same thing Daryl did.

"Merle and the others are waiting for us back at the highway we should probably head back." Daryl loads his crossbow up and we're ready to go.

We walk through the woods trying to make It back to the camp before dark hits. The small rays of sunlight shines through the trees making a spot here and there light up.

"Well we didn't get shit done today." Daryl's sarcastic voice says filling the air.

"Yeah we didn't get not a single squirrel or rabbit or anything. Hopefully Merle and the others are doing better." I say trying to talk to daryl as calmly as possible seeing anything can set him off.

"We did." Merle says holding up a squirrel as we make it out of the woods and him, Martinez and Elijah stand there.

"Who got this one?" Daryl asks grabbing it out of Merle's hand taking a look at it.

Merle smirks and points to Elijah and both mine and Daryl's focus goes to him.

"Good job kid." Daryl says to him patting him on the shoulder as he walks to the fire to get the animal ready to eat.

Elijah nods and I see a small grin come over his face and it's the first time I've ever seen him remotely look happy.

That night we only each get a little bit of the squirrel seeing there is five of us and we all have to eat.

We sit around the bright flaming fire as each of us sit around it eating.

"In honor of Eli doing good today he can get a little extra." Daryl says smiling handing him a piece of the squirrel we just cooked.

The next morning we load all of our things back into the truck and head out to god knows where.

"Hey Lynn, do you think there is anyone else alive?" Elijah asks me staring out the window as the world passes by.

I take a moment to think because he is still just a kid.

"Yes. I have hope one day all this will be over." I grin at him after I say this and he smiles once again.

An hour later it's daryl, Elijah, and I in the front and Merle and Martinez in the back. Elijah is asleep against my shoulder while daryl is still driving.

That's when static comes over the radio and I feel my throat go dry.

"We are a safe zone in Virginia up in the mountains. We provide food, shelter, and a home for the non infected. We-"

It cuts off and all we hear is static now.

"What. The. Hell. Was. That." Daryl says looking at me confused.

"Well apparently there is a safe zone in Virginia." My sarcasm causes him to roll his eyes and pulls over on the side of the road where there is a small trailer.

Martinez and Merle hop out the back and open the door to where I'm sitting and Elijah is still asleep.

"I'll take him to a room if you clear it first." Merle whispers to Martinez as he picks up Elijah and carries him inside the house after Martinez.

"Clear!" I hear from Martinez and me and daryl bring all of our stuff inside.

"Me and Lynn heard a radio come on talking about some kind of shelter." Daryl tells Merle and Martinez and their attention diverts from whatever they were doing to us.

"What?" Martinez says standing up from rubbing his hands through Elijah's hair.

"They said they had food, shelter, and protection." I tell him.

"So are we going or not?" Elijah says sitting up rubbing his eyes. I look to daryl and he nods in agreement.

"Merle? Martinez?"

"Well shit they got food lets go!" Merle says slapping his knee making us all chuckle a bit.

"Yeah let's go." Martinez tells us after we get done laughing.

"Well I guess it's settled. We're heading to the Virginia safe zone."
