June 20th

"Daisy, wake up!" I heard my little sister calling me, "we're here!" she squealed and I only rolled my eyes at her. Like every year, we had come to spend our summer holiday with our parents in Newport Beach but, for some reason, this year my sister was way more excited about it than usual.

"Care to explain why you're always in a mood these days?" she rolled her eyes at me, "we're about to spend an amazing month and a half in hot California, so what's your problem?"

"Courtney, don't start," I got out of the car, "and, by the way, why are you suddenly so happy about this vacation? It's going to be the same old summer!" I asked her as I realized she had opened the door too and was following me,

"First of all, I'm older and I'm going to enjoy my freedom," she said,

"You are seventeen, Courtney," I rolled my eyes again,

"So what?" she raised her eyebrow, "if you weren't so serious, stuck up and boring all the times, you'd be excited too," she made the weird face she always did when she wanted to convince me, "you're 19 and I'm 17, there are so many things we can do instead of sunbathing in luxurious beach beds with our freaking parents... if only you gave me a chance to show you,"

"And how would you know about the many things we can do?" I asked her, while I grabbed my two suitcases,

"You know, I don't spend all my free time at home like you used to do before going off to college," she snapped, "I actually have a social life there and I plan on having one here too... this year is going to be a fun one for me, whether you decide to come with me or not,"

"Good, go have fun then," I turned around, "I'll be waiting for you at the beach when you get bored," I fakely smiled, before walking inside the big house,

"I won't get bored... you will!" she raised her voice so I could hear but, as a reaction, she only got me closing the door of my room in front of her.

I dearly loved my sister but sometimes, for example, today, she really did annoy me. I knew I was no ordinary girl: I usually didn't like people my age, I was a loner and I had pretty much no friends, I was very serious when it came to studying and, according to everybody, I wasn't interested in what I was supposed to be interested in as a nineteen years old girl, but I was fine with it and I didn't feel the need to change and act more normal to please anyone.

"What's happened between you and Court?" My mom opened the room and made her way inside,

"She's just in that tedious teenager phase when she thinks that partying and having fun are the only things that matter in life," I rolled my eyes,

"Can you blame her though?" she sweetly smiled as she sat down on my bed, "she's 17, Daisy"

"And I'm glad she's enjoying her age," I replied, "I just don't want to be dragged into that,"

"Why?" she sighed, "Daisy, you're 19 and you barely go out..."

"Mom, I'm not having this conversation again," I snapped and interrupted her, "I have already told you I have other priorities... I don't need to go out and waste my time sitting in a pub when I could do something more useful,"

"I'm worried about you," she stated, "are you sure you are okay?"

"I am more than okay," I nodded,
