Girl-
I awoke hazily, battling for dominance against my weak body. When I could finally open my eyes enough to see, everything was a bright, blinding blur. I struggle to focus my eyes, realizing I'm without my glasses, as the blinding light is enough to make me sick. Then I finally notice the echo of a voice drowned out by my ears ringing, I turn my head to my right, but everything starts spinning in double and goes numb, as darkness consumes the blur of spinning colors above me...
A Bit Before...
Guy-
I check my phone for the 5th time in the last 2 minutes, waiting for Zoe to text back. She hasn't answered all day, and I'm extremely worried. But class is finally out, and I'm walking to her apartment, to make sure she's okay. After 4 more blocks and another 6, agonizing, minutes I make it to her building, with still no word from Zoe. I buzz her room for a good 2 minutes and there's no answer. Now I'm starting to panic. I call her 3 times, but it rings until voicemail. I press the buzzer for her neighbor who's seen me with Zoe many times, and wait the longest 10 seconds of my life.
"Hello?" A confused, feminine voice finally creeps through the speaker.
"Finally! Oh Thank God!!! Hi. Yes, sorry. I'm Jack, your neighbor Zoe's friend, we've met before I was the guy who helped you with your groceries. I-I can't get a hold of Zoe and I'm really really worried about her. She isn't replying, or picking up, or answering. I-I really need to check on her. Could you please let me in??" I stammer, unable to get all kinds of terrible scenarios out of my head.
"Oh my gosh! Of course! Of course! I'll be right down!" She quickly replies, sounding a bit panicked herself.
After she comes down and let's me in she gives me her emergency key to Zoe's apartment and a piece of paper with her number on it, also for emergencies, and walks with me to Zoe's door. I wait until she closes her door to unlock and open Zoe's door because I doubt she'll be happy I'm here, when she obviously wants to be left alone. But I open the door to silence, to no one appearing to be home.
I call out, "Hello? Zoe? Are you home?"
Nothing.
I step in the apartment and notice several, empty, bottles of wine on the counter, as I close the door behind me, and make my way throughout the rest of the apartment, looking for Zoe. It's way too quiet...
