I watch girl after girl
groan in the mirror and then return
with a paint set.
They work diligently to create a beautiful masterpiece.
One they will claim they did not spend hours perfecting.
Black pain to outline their sleepy eyes,
nude shades blended to cover their insecurities,
colored pencils to fill in what is missing,
and various tints of red and pink to cover cracked lips.
A beautiful masterpiece---
to hide who they really are.
