An Unexpected Relationship

Beyond the Walls

Mikasa wakes up from the sunlight that was shining through her window. She slowly opens her eyes, sits up from her bed and stretches her arms out dramatically. Today was the day that the scouting regiment would go out beyond the walls once again. She was confident in her own strengths and abilities but, regardless of that, she was still worried about Eren and Armin.

'What if something bad happens to them? I would never forgive myself for not protecting them.' She thought as she jumped out of bed and walked over to her dresser to change into her uniform.

Mikasa leaves her room to meet up with Eren and Armin. They usually meet up with her outside the barracks whenever they had a expedition outside the walls. As she walks outside, she notices them. They both look over to her.

"Mikasa! Over here!" Armin yells out as he waved Mikasa over.  "Yeah, let's hurry...before Captain Levi gets angry again." Eren says in a hurry. Mikasa rolls her eyes as she follows Eren and Armin to put their 3DMG on. She was never a fan of Captain Levi ever since he beat the crap out of Eren in the courtroom. 'Who does he think he is?! That shorty...I'll beat him up if I ever get the chance!' She thought as they all began to put their gear on to prepare themselves for the expedition.

"Oi brats! We don't have all day! Get into your groups!" Levi commands with his usual stoic and angry facial expressions. "Yes sir!" Many of the cadets yelled out. Mikasa sighed in irritation. 'Focus...I have to focus...just ignore him.'

She then realized that Levi was walking over towards her. Eren and Armin were panicking slightly, hoping that Levi wouldn't yell at them. Instead, he crossed his arms and glared at Mikasa.

"Brat...you'll be joining my group up at the front." He says sternly. Mikasa glares back at Levi. She didn't want to be away from Eren and Armin no matter what. "Why am I being moved Captain?" She asked. Levi groans in annoyance. "Because I said so...now follow me and get into position." He snaps back before turning around and walking back to the front.

Mikasa sighs heavily before turning towards Eren and Armin. "Please...be careful...and don't die." She murmurs. Eren shakes his head in irritation. "God Mikasa...we'll be fine! Stop treating me like a kid all the time!" He shouts out before turning around to walk away. Armin sighs. "Don't let his irrational emotions get to you Mikasa...and we'll be careful." He says before following Eren.

Mikasa couldn't help but to feel sad. 'He gets so...angry with me...why is that?' She thought as she gets in positions at the front. She looks over to see Levi petting his horse before jumping onto it swiftly. 'And why did HE bring me up here? I don't want to be around him.'

"Alright let's head out!" Erwin Smith yells out as the gates opens. The scouting regiment follows behind Erwin as they ride outside the walls. Mikasa was ready for anything, but she was still distracted. 'I can't be here...I need to watch over them.'

They were getting closer to the forest and it was quiet...a little too quiet. Mikasa looked around before looking back at Levi. Levi looked expressionless as usual but he seemed more tense. Without any warning, a huge abnormal titan, followed by other smaller titans, attacked from the left side of the group. Mikasa immediately flew up to escape followed by the rest of the soldiers.

"ATTACK!" Erwin commands. Mikasa did as she was told and attacked the titans without breaking a sweat. As she finishes off a titan, she looks over at Levi who looked back at her.

"Focus on killing titans and nothing else Brat." Levi scuffs as if seeing right through her. Mikasa groans and glares at him. "I can take care of myself." She says before flying up into the air again towards the forest. She continued to slice the naps off of the titans for some time until she heard someone from behind her yelling.
