(Disclaimer, strong language. Michael has a potty mouth.)

It almost scared me how easily Michael forgave me for everything I did. But then again, that's just what he does. I told him I'd make it up to him, I did some pretty messed up stuff when I had the squip, but he brushed it off. He told me he didn't blame me for anything, it was all, and I quote, 'that fucking psychopathic toaster.'

That didn't stop me from feeling awful, though.

"Are you sure there isn't anything I can do?" We walked along the sidewalk. Michael bounced along, listening to one song or another. It feels like it's been forever since we walked to school together. I missed this.

"Dude, chill. I told you its fine."

"Are you sure? I still feel-"

"If it means that much to you, fine. After school, slushies on you and we're even, cool?" He relented.

"Cool." I smiled, "Shake on it?"

He smirked, "You know it," We had had a handshake for years. We were, like, twelve when we made it up. Michael insisted that we needed one, being best friends and all. I humored him, and we spent hours working on it until we found one that stuck.

We high-fived high, then low, then taped one foot against one anothers. I beamed. It felt so good to be around him again. Being cool was, well, cool and all, but it couldn't beat this. That didn't stop the thought from crossing my mind every now and again, though.

Michael started humming along to his music. "Hmmm hmmm and abel, So I throw my cards on your table~" He started to sing. "I want to love you, I want to love and treat, love and treat you right~" He grabbed my hand and led me as he danced along the sidewalk. "I want to love you every day and every night, We'll be together, yeah, with a roof right over our heads," I giggled as he dragged me along. "We'll share the shelter, yeah, oh now of my single bed, We'll share the same room, yeah, for Jah provide the bread," He curled me close to him before spinning me away. "Is this love, is this love, is this love, Is this love that I'm feelin'~" He giggled.

God I missed this.

The day was weird. I scurried through the day, wishing I could self implode. I felt like everyone was staring at me, wich they probably were to be honest. It was my first day back since the whole trying to take over the entire school thing.

"I'm asking her out," I voiced out of nowhere. I stared at Christine from across the lunch room. She sat at the table I was a temporary resident at, chatting with Brooke about one thing or another. My leg bounced nervously. I tapped my finger on the lunch table in a rhythm I was sure was driving Michael crazy.

He slipped the slushie straw out of his mouth and quickly swallowed in order to get his words out."Shit, Dude! That's awesome! Good Luck, Man!" He said, gesturing to nothing.

My brain quickly flipped. "I can't," This is a terrible idea. She will say no and you will be alone forever, dumbass.

"Yes, you can," Michael insisted, staring me down. What was I thinking! Of course you can do this! ..... No you can't.

I took a deep breath. Just breath, and grow a pair, Jeremy. Jeez, my internal monologue is weird. Flashbacks of arguing ( If you could call immediately caving and agreeing arguing) with the squip started to crowd my mind. Time for that internal argument to stop.

"Any advice?" I asked. At this point I was just grasping at any excuse not to go over at this particular point in time.

"I don't know if you've noticed over the 12 years we've been friends," He trailed, gesturing with his slushie, "but I'm not exactly the best in the romance department,"
